The window display suggests the best kebabs in town but are they actually the best kebabs in town? Read on to find out what this layperson thinks!
Having dropped my party off outside, I headed off to find adequate parking on a Saturday evening. I gave up hope looking for street parking so reluctantly parked my car at a pay and display car park about 5 mins away. The walk on the way back is good if you have over eaten like I did so it could be a plus point!
Anyways we ordered our food with specific instructions however as this being a one waiter joint, those instructions were not followed by the 3 men in the kitchen who must have been occupied perfecting the kebabs.
When the kebabs arrived, they were fresh and looked appetising. Resting on a fluffy naan, I poured some sauces to the side and tore off a piece of naan along with a kebab. Taking a bite, I was quite surprised at how good these kebabs tasted. It’s not common to find a place to serve up good naans but Shahi Naan did their best which was good enough.
I was glad I ordered the large which comes with 3 kebabs as opposed to the miserly small portion of 2.
If you couldn’t see or hear the rain outside, you could convince yourself you were sitting in a restaurant in the heart of Pakistan with the interior to match any place in our homeland.
After indulging myself, I was tempted to order another one but my head outfought my stomach this time so I did not bother. The waiter was apologetic at the end that the specific instructions were not followed but with the Britishness in me, I was the one who apologised to him for giving him such difficult or any instructions at all.
All in all, I would say it is hard to argue against their motto of being the best kebabs in town. Therefore you can safely put the phone down to Trading Regulations as there...
Read moreI had never been to this shop, but do know it’s a old establishment. Someone suggested a visit quoting they have the best seekh kebabs, so thought I’d visit.
I was looking to buy food for family so needed good portions of food. I first checked on the menu for any meals and noticed the kebab meal, I asked what was included in the large kebab meal, which was priced at £4.90 and was told it had 3 seekh kebabs and a naan. As I was looking further into the menu I noticed each kebab cost £1.20 and the naan is for £1.00. So was disappointed to learn it’s not much of a deal, as it would work out cheaper at around £4.60 if I asked for the meal items separately lol?
I felt the sauces they provided were watered down so much, that when you dip it seems you are adding the flavor of the food into the sauce rather than the other way round, was not impressed!
Fair enough some establishments charge steep prices , but in return find it difficult to understand why the need to be ultra conservative with the quality/quantity of sauces and salads (I was given 2 small bags for salad, which did seem disproportionate for around 26 seekh kebabs and other tikkas.) but i was given another small packet when I asked if could add some more
However, the staff were nice and friendly, cannot fault them. But I feel there could be some improvement when it comes to portion sizes, which would be great if they reflected the prices on the menu. (Just my opinion.)
But in my view I’ve had better kebabs elsewhere, not the best place in my experience , although some family members did enjoy it more...
Read moreOn my brother’s and a friend’s recommendation, I tried ‘SHAHI NAN KEBAB’ on Stratford Road. The outside of the takeaway is unassuming and the although the interior has recently been refurbished , the interior is quite plain and understated.
The food and in particular the ‘Shish’ and ‘Seekh’ Kebabs are a totally different matter however. They are freshly made at the front of the shop in plain view and this ensures an authentic barbecue flavour, which is served hot, without delay and always mouth-wateringly delicious. I have been 5 times since the start of the year – 3 times eating inside and twice ordering a takeaway, which I picked up. I’ve always received a warm welcome, prompt service and now recognition as I visit more regularly. If you’re going to eat inside, just beware that the capacity isn’t too large, and the restaurant fills up very quickly at busy times, resulting in you possibly having to wait.
Price-wise it’s not the cheapest place, but then it isn’t the most expensive either. The food on offer does represent excellent value for money though, with all dishes being cooked to exceptionally high standards. I’ve had King Prawn Tikka Balti, Chicken Tikka Masala and Tandoori Chicken Masala and all are among the best dishes I’ve sampled at any restaurant in the city.
Great food at affordable prices with superb service. If you haven’t been,...
