Went to cineworld Dundee last night to get the amazing 2-4-1 meerkat movie deal, which is on every Tuesday and Wednesday.
My girlfriend has unlimited and has had it since September 2023 (Ā£12.99 a month) however, I pay for it out my pocket, but has her name and picture. We always go together on a Tuesday/Wednesday and take advantage of Meerkat movies and go together sometimes twice a week.
Normally we use the machine and have only used the desk about 3 times when the machine was out of action , only been asked 3 times in nearly 2 years to show them the card.
On this occasion my girlfriend friend was unwell, (last minute) so decided to ask my friend along instead, as was looking forward to seeing this new release. (Didn't think this was going to be a problem)
So me and my friend approached a man at the till (as machine wasn't working), he scanned the unlimited card through my phone and then was treated like a criminal.
I don't know if the man was a manager/supervisor. Our description of him was middle aged, short curly hair and wore glasses.
He then refused to let us in because my girlfriends name and picture is on the card.
Before i even got to even say, "okay I understand, can we please pay the normal concession fee to see the movie" he then threatened me with a ban. (Saying I needed the physical card ) This was unfortunately lost a few months ago) hence why it's on our phone now.
My initial plan was getting to the film at 5.30pm, with my gf (but due to illness, this didn't work out) So I arrived at 5.45pm, I finished work at 5pm after a long driving day, for me to then head to monifieth to pick up my friend. Then rush to the cinema.
After this threat and customer treatment, me and my friend just walked out of the cinema.
I'm not saying every employee at cineworld is like this individual, but the level of customer 'experience' and 'focus' he displayed to me and my friend last night was atrocious.
From here, we decided to try our next closest cinema. Odeon.
Upon entering the premises, we were greeted by all the staff and everyone seemed like they wanted to be there.
The comparison of a 'complete' customer experience between cineworld and odeon was like night and day.
Due to the way I was treated last night from cineworld, Its looking like I'm going to have to cancel my girlfriends unlimited and go with odeons limitless. This is not how loyal customers for 2 years should be treated and made to feel intimidated by ONE member of staff.
I don't think cineworld will even entertain this review, but it's to make people aware of this individual.
If I could seriously give -5 stars for this cineworld experience I would. 1 star is actually very generous.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis cinema was awesome, the reclining seats were perfect for a good sleep while the wife was preparing a chicken and mushroom pot noodle for me. The swing round tables are a god send, as you can fit a good two or three(at a push) slices of bread to dip into the piping hot pot noodle on there.on the other hand, the sound system was so loud and bassy that i nearly fully woke up ,absolutely brilliant. And when I dropped my tin of opened tuna down tthe back of the seat the staff were so very attentive and friendly that one of them ran all the way home to fetch her cat to get right under my seat and eat the small flakes the dust pan and brush could not get. The cats name was charles Jr the 3rd(strange i know and how it was partially blind, hairless and smelt heavily of cheap dog food was just another of life's little mysterys) but all said and done the film it's self was a complete pile of horse sh@#e, the only saving grace was the cinema its self, very clean and plenty of toilet paper in the cubicles, (dont think the management are aware of random holes drilled into the partitions ,it totally puts you of when you are trying to squeeze out a world record one and get a fright and snip it off way to soon, i was bloody raging , absolutely brilliant...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOut of the cinemas in Dundee cineworld is a solid 'meh'. Sure, it is cheaper than the alternatives but given the shoddy quality all round you are left wondering whether the few pound more elsewhere would have been worth it.
The main screens are noticeably off-centre and have large dark patches, either a result of poorly cleaned equipment or an uneven projection surface. That being said, the visuals are better than the audio.
Cineworld Dundee, where it feels like someone is trying too play the audio through a smartphone right at the front. I'm not even entirely convinced that they have stereo sound. If I had to rate the audio based on immersion I would score it a 3/10, it is clear enough but there is absolutely no sense of direction.
If you just want to see a film and don't really care for quality cineworld is still the cheapest place. However, if you go to the cinema for that 'cinema feel' you would be far better off paying the pound or so difference and...
