Customer service and management attitude displayed to customers is dreadful. I was looking for PVC tablecloths for 3 holiday properties I own. I gave the sales assistant the precise measurements of the tables (3ft x 5ft). She clicked away on the calculator and advised I would need 1.5 metres of material, stating this would give "a good 6 inch overhang". Trusting her experience I continued with the purchase. Arriving back home I tried out one of the table cloths only to discover the material barely covered the length of the table! I contacted the store and was advised to bring the material back and speak with the department manager Ann. I did as advised, however Ann intimated the error was not their's but mine almost inferring I was a liar. The sales assistant recognised me, backed me up and confirmed the measurements I had given were correct and that SHE had made the error in the measurement calculation. Ann then begrudgingly accepted the error was their own. She then advised I could have 3 replacement lengths of fabric but would have to pay the extra cost involved. I pointed out to her that due to their error I was having to burden the inconvenience & travel cost to have the matter resolved ( I reside 18 miles from the store). She repeatedly stated "we do not normally accept returns" in a rather condescending tone, inferring her offer was a gesture of goodwill (taking no responsibility for the error). At this point I decided my custom was not valued so should take it elsewhere. As I was leaving the store the sales assistant uttered it was her fault and that she was sorry. This apology came too late, coupled with the dreadful attitude of the department manager I was never so glad to leave Dunelm store. I have since found a local supplier who values my custome - one I wish I had tried in the first instance! Shop local - where we look after each other and...
