They had me at "sherry trifle" and held me captive with their heartwarming hospitality and charm.
As you step into the Whitehall, you're greeted by a place that’s stylishly decorated with a loving nod to Welsh artists, making you feel like you're in a warm Welsh embrace. But what really sets Whitehall apart from the pack? A woman by the name of Hefina, the owner and style maven, who can rock a pair of cow print shoes like nobody's business. Trust me, her footwear is as fabulous as the food she serves up!
You can feel the local love for Whitehall - every Pen Llynian worth their salt nudged me towards this place, and boy, I'm glad they did. Now don't expect swanky fine dining with silver domes and ten courses. This is gastro pub territory, and let me tell you, they're knocking it out of the park.
We kicked things off with the prawns. The biggest, juiciest prawns basking in a glorious pool of garlic butter - I thought I’d wandered into prawn heaven. Next up, a succulent lamb rump, perfectly pink in the middle, served with mint and redcurrant gravy, an absolute beast of a potato and rosemary croquette, and a hearty side of greens. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, just the way it should be.
But my friends, the piece de resistance was yet to come - the nostalgic sherry trifle. I swear it was more beautiful than a sunset over Snowdonia, and I’ve seen a few of those. This wasn’t just a trifle, this was a journey back to my childhood, but even better than I remembered. We did try the Pimms and meringues with strawberries, and they were delightful, but honestly, my heart and my taste buds were lost to that dreamy trifle.
So, if you find yourself up north, especially if you're popping by for the Eisteddfod Festival in August, do yourself a favour and visit Hefina and her fantastic team at the Whitehall. Why is it a favourite amongst the locals, you ask? It’s simple - they serve up scrumptious food, with a side of warmth and a dollop of Welsh charm. And trust me, that's a recipe that never...
Read moreWE booked the table for two for 8pm with a nice friendly sounding lady with a strong Australasian accent. We had been recommended by a local gentleman and thought the reviews on tripadvisor looked good.
However we have been extremely disappointed with the Whitehall Pwllheli.
On arrival we were greeted by two young very casually dressed members off Staff. Who gave us a choice of where to sit and took drink order. After 15 minutes of waiting we hadn’t received our drinks or had any further attention from any member of staff. I left my table and went up to the bar to find the the same young man and young women who appeared to be the only members of staff to be working on a busy Thursday evening. I then re ordered our drinks and received no apology for the delay. I would really like to know who owns or Manages this place as I can’t believe you would leave two clearly inexperienced members of staff alone. I had the fruity curry which tasted like a microwave meal. My partner had the fish cakes which she enjoyed and said they tasted home made. However they came with under cooked chips which obviously fried in oil that was too hot as they were a dark brown colour and hard in the middle.
We went to pay the bill as we just wanted to leave. We weren’t asked how the meal was.
I fed up now of saying anymore about this terrible experience at the Whitehall Pwllheli.

Read moreCalled to book a table and had strange awkward booking experience- asked for a table for 7 adults plus a toddler a baby. Emphasised at the end that the 7 adults did not include toddler and baby (as is standard when booking with kids) only to be snorted at and spoken to passive aggressively indicating that I should have mentioned this earlier (So, only seconds before I “corrected” myself). Tried to laugh it off but the person seemed very cold about it. Later arrived to a table set for 9 people despite a baby clearly not needing a space and cutlery. We were sat down for about an hour before being seen to and had to go over to the staff about 3 times before they even took our drinks orders. They seemed rushed and understaffed, and was made to feel like I was almost being punished for not being clear when booking, as other people seemed to have no issues. Whole meal took over 90 mins longer than expected which is frustrating when you are trying to keep kids occupied. Very odd! Food was nice however when it arrived and the manager apologised...
