Shocking Hospitality…. Shopping in Pwllheli with 7 family & friends. Called in the Mitre Pub to get out of the rain for a quick drink. Ordered drinks at the bar only to be told no children allowed. We had a 2 1/2 year old and a fifteen year old (both were well behaved) as soon as I paid for drinks I was told I can’t have kids in the bar as they ‘don’t sell food’. As far as I know it’s legal for kids to be in a bar with an adult. No signs anywhere saying no kids or dogs or anything either! We were given the choice of standing in the ‘Beer garden’ or stand on the front on the pavement. We said that we’d rather stand on the pavement since people were smoking at the back. Then we were told we can’t take drinks out on the front! I was close to tipping all the drinks in the pavement but we opted to go and stand in the rain with the smokers at the back. Shocking, what century are we living in again!!? I understand it when pubs don’t let kids in on an evening but this was 2pm. It’s no wonder pubs are going out of business…. Doesn’t this place want to make any money?? So if you’re a tourist with kids just don’t bother…. I wouldn’t mind but having the kids with us was a rarity this trip d so this place has just lost the return custom of 10 adults who regularly come to Pwllheli!

I must say that the landlord working at this local pub is a PROBLEM. If you are Welsh and speak the native tongue in the pub, he will not like it. If you put Welsh music on the juke box he will turn it off or turn it down so you can not hear it. He has barred so many locals for pathetic reasons, he is more happy with a pint in his hand all the time rather than working him self, though if he does be prepared, a friend of mine ordered a pint of bitter the other day HE was serving for a change, his hands were shaking so much, he lost a good inch from the glass, my mate said he had ordered a pint, not 3/4 of a pint, HE replied "Don't be stupid" turned away and left him. Remember ENTERPRISE are the owners but they have handed the responsibility of running the pub to another company, who apparently employ idiots, like the two that there were there before these two, who were sacked. When is ENTERPRISE going to see the light...

Very unfriendly place, I've been to many pubs mostly good, not many bad but this place takes the crown for all the wrong reasons. Staff have bad attitude and don't want your custom, locals don't want outsiders in there. Also not dog friendly at all but it reckons to be so. My advice would be to avoid...
