A fabulous experience to visit the regular (and free) exhibitions at Christie’s and see artwork that is often not usually available to the public. Worth giving them a follow on Instagram to get updated on when they are showing artwork before an auction. They had a brilliant Art of the Surreal exhibition on for 3 days in March, featuring Picasso’s ‘La Fenêtre Ouverte’ (the open window) which was remarkable. It was also absolutely magical to see Franz Marc’s ‘The Foxes’ which was beautifully displayed, and later sold for £42.5 million.
They have a maze of rooms with longer-running exhibitions and even more incredible art as well, and I am very much looking forward to seeing their current ‘Art of Literature’ collection which runs until 15th July 2022. For an avid art fan, a visit to Christie’s is a must. The staff are really great too. Sadly Christie’s is not open...
Read moreHad a very bad experience with the Handbag department based in Paris. I was deeply upset and regretted putting my pristine peach small Chanel bag in auction back in June 2024. It has been nearly a year now and have only recently just got the bag back from their Paris office following a disastrous failed sale where the buyer defaulted on the payment. Since no payment is forthcoming, I have requested the bag back several times with deep frustration. Finally, on the 11 March 2025 my Chanel bag finally arrived and l went to collect it at your Christie’s London office. To my horror and (l cried), l found that my precious Chanel boy bag looks worn, old and clearly damaged together with the now worn out looking box. This is how Christies treat their clients possessions. Emailed the head of Paris handbags, she...
Read moreHard to judge this as what Iam about to write about is no longer there - due to be sold at auction on 31Jan24. We went up to London to see the collection as was a big 80s fan of the band. The staff are so nice and helpful. I had a long chat with the lady who put the catalogue together - she knew her stuff! I like how they had set out the guitars, allowed a close look and take loads of pics. Some places can get "sniffy" eg you cant afford this stuff (true) but not here, staff treated all the public as an important visitor. My only slight complaint is that they had not set up an area for visiotrs to do some "air guitar" licks! Entry was free - I always look out for auction viewings as it is a free "museum". If in London worth checking out if they have...
