Had the most wonderful time on this tour. We unfortunately did not catch our tour guides name but she mentioned that she loved the national portrait gallery and was phenomenal. I highly recommend visiting if you have a little over an hour to kill -this is a perfect Sunday outing. So interesting, beautiful and impressive. We were very lucky to get a rather small group at 3pm on a Sunday. They also mentioned that they are only open on Sundays because the building is used for offices during the week which was very good to know. I think this tour is more than worth the price, it is so thorough and interesting and all the staff are so helpful and kind. I would love to come back. I recommend buying tickets in advance but we were able to buy them...

Outstanding quality guide staff, highlighting so many features that we might have walked right past without noticing, or understanding the significance of had it not been for their detailed and knowledgeable commentary. Fascinating history to the building through the ages, and we are so fortunate not only that it has been so beautifully restored, but that the public is allowed to visit. No need to take photos - spend time looking properly at what's in front of you and listening to the guide respectfully, marvelling at the depth and detail of their knowledge, and then buy the £6 guidebook in the foyer on...

Enjoyed the informative guided tour of this Georgian townhouse in St. James, which, apparently, is only available Sundays and the only way one can visit the townhouse unless it is hired as a venue. The light fixture in the central stairway that previously decorated a Venetian Doge's barge is noteworthy in its history and how it was repurposed. Other design features such as the Palm Room are memorable. The restoration done by RIT about forty years ago remains successful.

I wish the guide had further discussed further details of the Spencer fortune – often the soft-belly of many...

The most stunning manor houses in London: 📍Kenwood House, Hampstead Heath: a neoclassical villa lived in by Earl of Mansfield and was once sold to a member of the Guinness family 📍Spencer House, Central London: a neoclassic town house commissioned by the first Earl Spencer 📍Chiswick House in Chiswick: a Neo - Palladian villa designed by Lord Burlington Every Manor House is beautiful in their own right and a must for all architecture lovers. Extremely unique residence which survived WWII bombing mostly intact, miraculously because the two buildings on either side were destroyed. A fascinating history is told by the guide during the hour long tour of the primary rooms, which have been fully restored. Much of the fittings, doors and windows were removed to save them from being damaged in the war and had to be replaced and that was done with great care for authenticity. This is a rare house to survive in central London and well worth the visit. Photos are not allowed in most rooms.
