I would have given it two stars but because of the fab Superdry JDs and MnS, I ll add a star. I used to think this shopping centre is not bad despite others disagreeing but even I can see how the centre has nosedived in the last year at a rapid rate. There is an increase in those tacky clothing shops and they are about 10 a penny in the centre now. Are things really that bad in the retail world that the reputable brands are slowly fading from our high streets? There is now another delightful betting place as well. Personally I dont mind shopping there at all for the above named shops and fruit/veg market but it is sad to see how downhill it has gone. Its a shame because the place is looking pretty dire but only for the xmas decorations does it look nice at Christmas. It has public toilets on both ends of the centre, at least two sets of escalators and a few lifts too. There are also a few nice eateries. There is also an arcade place for those into their gaming. If I really want to get enjoy myself not just running errands in town then I ll go to Wimbledon occasionally Bromley. We can only hope it will improve at some point. I hear our mayor wants to get the Westfield centre going again. It will be interesting to see how this goes. I hope they seriously think this out as shopping habbits have obviously changed alot. Update:5.10.22 Only a handful of people shop even t the busiest of times. They have now installed two arcade games where the old BHS used to be. Whether there trying to drain much needed money from kids is...
Read moreThe Whitgift is okay. It's usefull, very handy if you live in or near Croydon. But, as I discovered, the centre has a draw back. The floor level plan at ground zero does NOT tally with all the levels. For example, I required a visit to boots to procure some stem gloves for my new glasses. I checked the Information board, it told me 1st floor, my past memory of Whitgift told me different, but I stuck to the info board, it was a mistake, it was on zero floor, thanks to the security guard. I mentioned the mix up and he said it's an American idea supposedly for efficiency. I told him it reminded me of where I live. A mix up of floors, like there is no lower ground floor, it's not on the info board but it is in the lift. Confusing? As for the Whitgift, interesting placing. Caters for most needs, reminds me of Bromley's center. As for the Whitgift I would recommend it. Just be carefull of the escalators, being overhauled, usual maintenance, barriered off. As for the clock, doesn't work any more. It was almost 5.p.m. or 17:00. It showed 10:30. And it chimed. A kind of BigBen sort of sound. I hope they get it fixed. Like they did with BigBen. As for Whitgift info board, please get it fixed. Any new customers or ones like me are at a loss, no proper compass to point the way. Orientation is lost. Some of the center has closed, several shops, a sign of the times. But...
