The gym is just barely adequate if you're willing to be a bit creative. But the price is higher than it ought to be. The management doesn't seem to care about any complaints or requests. I requested that they simply get a curling bar that fits the hole on the weights (a completely reasonable request) and they ignored me. Others have made similar minor requests to no effect. The staff and manager act like they don't even want you to be in there, especially if you're working out near closing time. They don't stay open until the time advertised. They start running you out about ten minutes ahead of time. Very pushy and rude about it too. They also throw down cleaning products during the day which stinks up the gym and produces unhealthy fumes. Generally speaking, the gym is run on a really poor business model (combination of apathy and rudeness) which could easily be changed for the better if anyone actually cared. I won't be renewing...
Read moreI use the gym here and attend some of the exercise classes. The gym is small but reasonably well equipped with plenty of cardiovascular machines, weight machines and free weights. Membership is reasonably priced and includes several free classes every day during the week eg spinning, body pump and boot camp. Staff are friendly and there is no pressure to spend more money. Opening times are limited, especially at the weekend, but they work for me.
The complex used to be Manchester city's training ground and is still mostly sky blue. It is now owned by the metropolitan university but football is still the main event. There are several outdoor pitches and an indoor one with games on all the time. The youth world cup finals were held here. This can mean it's a pain to park if there's a big event on but usually the car park is big enough to cope.
