Our dinner at Walnut Restaurant was an unforgettable celebration of Persian flavours, shared with my wife, my friend, and his wife in a warm and inviting atmosphere. We began our culinary journey with two exceptional starters that set the perfect tone for the meal ahead. To start, we had Ash Reshteh, a hearty and aromatic Persian noodle soup. It was a delightful combination of flavours, with tender minced meat, broad beans, and lentils simmered together in a rich, spiced broth. The addition of chickpeas, onions, and a touch of turmeric brought a lovely warmth, while a swirl of kashk (fermented whey) added a creamy tang that perfectly balsavoury depth of the dish. Next, we indulged in the comforting flavours of Kashk-E-Badenjan, a sautéed aubergine dish. The aubergine combined wonderfully with the creamy walnuts and the earthy undertones of garlic. The combination of whey and fresh mint provided a refreshing lift, and we eagerly scooped up every bit with soft, fresh Iranian bread—the ideal accompaniment to such a flavourful dis For the main courses, we treated ourselves to four distinct and mouthwatering Persian dishes, each one more delicious than the last. First, we had Chelo Kabab Koobideh, a classic Iranian favourite. The marinated minced lamb, grilled to perfection, was juicy and full of smoky flavour. Served with saffroned basmati rice, which was light and fragrant, it was a true celebration of Persian grilling. Every bite was tender, savoury, and perfectly seasoned. Then came the tender and flavourful Joojeh Kabab. These marinated chicken skewers, grilled to perfection, had a deliciously tangy marinade and were complemented by the subtle fragrance of saffron rice. The chicken was juicy, well-seasoned, and offered a lighter contrast to the richness of the lamb kabab. Next, we sampled the exquisite Lamb Shank with Baghali Polo, a dish that combined the richness of the lamb with the delicate flavours of baghali polo. The slow-cooked lamb shank was so tender it practically fell off the bone, having absorbed the aromatic herbs and spices. Served alongside rice infused with dill and broad beans, the dish provided a beautiful balance of savoury and herby notes. The tender lamb paired perfectly with the fragrant, light rice, and the yogurt on the side added a refreshing contrast to the richness of the dish. Then, the fourth dish was Joojeh Kabab once again—this time as a delightful alternative to the lamb. Made from marinated boneless chicken breast or thigh, the chicken was soaked in a mixture of yogurt, lemon, saffron, and other spices. Grilled on skewers, it was tender and aromatic, offering a perfect contrast to the other dishes. We concluded our savoury journey with a pot of Persian tea, brewed strong and served in delicate, handleless glass cups. The tea’s deep amber colour was a sight to behold, and sipping it was the perfect way to end the meal, offering a comforting and aromatic experience. For dessert, we enjoyed Zoolbia & Bamieh, two crispy, syrup-soaked Persian sweets that were simply irresistible. The Zoolbia, shaped into intricate spirals, was light, crisp, and drenched in syrup, while the Bamieh, shaped like small doughnut holes, was equally delightful. Both treats had the perfect balance of sweetness and crunch, making them a wonderful way to conclude our meal. It was truly an exceptional dinner, full of vibrant flavours and textures, with each dish telling its own story of Persian culinary tradition. The combination of savoury meats, fragrant rice, and sweet desserts, all complemented by refreshing tea, left us thoroughly satisfied and eager for more. A memorable evening spent in great company and with even better food. Just make sure to reserve a table at least six hours so you aviod any disappointment. Also, eating at wallnut could be not very cheap and not extremely expensive . Parking is quit challenges. Check more of my travels on my...

My wife and I are not Persian, but for 30+ years have lived amongst Persians in Australia, Bahrain, UAE and the UK, many of whom we count amongst our most dearest of friends. We have eaten more home-cooked Persian food, and eaten at more Persian restaurants across the world than we could possibly begin to count. This evening we took one of our closest Persian friends to Walnut. She travels regularly between her homes in Australia, Iran and the UK. This was both her and our fist visit to Walnut. We were blown away, our friend even going so far as to say that our meal was probably one of the best she has had outside Iran. Everything we ordered proved a taste sensation. For starters we indulged in generously filled bowls of Mast-O Mosir (shallot and garlic mixed with thick yogurt), Kashke Bademjan (aubergine dip), a simple but fresh and tasty mixed salad of chopped tomato, cucumber, green pepper, lettuce, olives and dressing, Torshi (pickled vegetables - a "must have" accompaniment to any Persian meal), and freshly baked Persian bread. This was accompanied by mains servings of the great Persian classic, Ghormeh Sabzi (Persian herb stew with kidney beans, dry lime and truly the most succulent pieces of lamb you could hope to find), Fesenjan (incredibly tender pieces of chicken in a walnut pomegranate sauce), and Zereshk Polo (Barberry Rice with Chicken), a near half-chicken dish of Persian of steamed rice, layered with barberries. The very generous portions proved a struggle for even me to eat, but the bill (no alcohol) for the three of us, including two large and very refreshing glasses of mock mojito and a couple of bottles of still water, came to a mere £88! Where on earth else in the UK can you find such good and generously portioned food for a bargain price of less than £30 per person? All in all, this place deserves a 10 out of 10 for food quality, presentation, portion sizes and taste, ambience and service. We will...

I treated my fiancé to a trip to Manchester for his birthday on 19th August 2025, and we came to Walnut for dinner. It was absolutely outstanding. I spent a while researching the best Persian restaurant, and Walnut have absolutely earned their spot at number one on Google! For a Monday evening, I didn't expect it to be so busy, but it was quickly clear as to why... From the get-go, we were greeted with smiling, friendly waiters. The décor is modern and absolutely beautiful, especially the water feature, blossom tree, and mural. The venue is also impeccably clean throughout. We are used to waiting a while for food, yet ours arrived within about 10 minutes of ordering. This was impressive considering how busy they were, and everything was clearly freshly prepared. The joojeh and koobideh were so tender, and the rice was perfectly cooked. I can't recommend the bastani highly enough - it will be the best ice cream you ever have! As always, we over-ordered our main food (so easy to do at a Persian restaurant!), but couldn't waste a mouthful, so they neatly boxed our leftovers for us to take away. It made for a perfect dinner after the long drive home the next day - incredibly, the joojeh was as tender as when it was first served after reheating in the airfryer. I also need to give a shout out to the Walnut Bakery next door. We stopped there after and we were met with fantastic service once again. My only complaint is that they are 2.5 hours away from where we live, so we can't visit again easily!! We will 100% be back whenever we come to Manchester in the future, and have already recommended to friends and family.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Walnut Persian Restaurant is the pinnacle of Iranian cuisine in Manchester. If you're searching for truly authentic, mouth-watering traditional Persian food, look no further—this is the place. The menu is a celebration of classic Iranian cooking. We started with the superb Hummus, Mirza Ghasemi and the rich, comforting Soups, which were the perfect, flavourful introduction. For the main event, the Kebabs are simply a must-try. The Chicken Kebab was tender and succulent, but the Koobideh Kebab was truly amazing—perfectly seasoned and grilled. What elevates Walnut to the 'best' category is the quality of its stews. The Ghormeh sabzi was a masterclass in slow-cooked goodness, rich with lamb, split peas, and dried lime. This is the food of home, prepared with care and skill. Beyond the amazing traditional dishes, the entire experience is first-class. The service is attentive, incredibly friendly, and full of genuine Persian hospitality. Highly recommend for anyone looking for the most authentic and delicious Iranian food experience in Manchester. A genuine taste of Iran—go and enjoy! 📍 Location: Rusholme, Manchester (Curry Mile) ⭐ Must Try: Kebab, Gheymeh (Ghelmeh Kazei), and any of their traditional soups!
