PROCEED WITH CAUTION! Today's price for parking was £30 (that's not a typo, thirty pounds for the day)
We arrived, found the sinage with the Ringo Code and saw the price - and decided to leave. For half that amount of money we spent the day in Rye and had a delicious cream tea at an independent cafe.
Other reviews state this car park is free, or a good budget option. It is definitely not free, though I understand value for money can be subjective.
Upon arrival there was a parking attendant in a booth at the entrance, she saw us but ignored us. Leading to our confusion and us hovering at the booth for a time. There is no clear sinage stating the cost upon appach nor as you enter the car park. It appears to me this is an intentional design to encourage people to enter without knowing the price. Note - it is not always possible to check online before arrival in a patchy signal area.
I am curious to know the justification for this price. Is it solely for Council profit? What are the overheads on running an open air tarmac car park? Does a percentage go towards conservation of the sand dunes?
In times were families will try and stretch £30 for a weekly food shop this appears to be pure greed on part of the Council. Enjoying fresh air and nature at a public beauty spot used to be free. It is a shame that pleasure is now reserved for...
Read moreThis car park is great but the reason for 3 stars is that there are issues, firstly, they have announced recently that as of August 8th, 2022 the car park will not open until 8:30am. This causes a backlog of cars who think it opens at 8am. I have suggested the edit to google.
Secondly, this car park gets very busy very quickly and for good reason, the beach is great! All the facilities are in one place and the lifeguard tower is very close: therefore it fills up quickly and then the only road in and out gets clogged very quickly, barely any room to turn around if need be to find alternative car parks.
Thirdly, if you want to leave at any point in the middle of the day it is seriously frustrating to get out, as people are still streaming in consistently, and clogging the main road to get to the next car park down the road. This past Saturday I tried to leave at 2pm only to sit stationary for about 30min because people don't read the signs that the car park is full and because the adjacent car park is so near and they try and turn around to park there.
During peak times there needs to be better parking control.
If you decide to leave after 4pm, the above issue is...
