Update: So it's 2024 and I would have liked to have said all is well in the gym, but it's not.
After nearly 12 months of waiting the weighs machines were replaced, with what looks like something you can buy at Argos.
Cardio equipment is still on its last legs, but no one within Abbeycraft corporate seems to want to address and replace the aging equipment and I feel have told management to stop communicating with members and ignore their complaints.
Those impacted have been left with no updates on what is going on and whether Abbeycroft will provide partial refunds for them failing to provide a fully working and safe gym experience.
Then insult to injury Abbeycroft email to ask if you would like to join them at the customer forum. Emails were sent on the 16th of Jan for an event, which you had to book to attend on the 17th of Jan.
Something tells me Abbeycroft did this on purpose for fear of the members questions over gym equipment, plumbing that leaves showers partially working and a sewage smell coming from the drains. As well as a pool that is either to cold or has no heat pump.
Yet with all this going on Abbeycroft still manage to charge all members full price every month and offer no end to the onsite issues, but can afford to advertise on Sky TV on a daily basis.
So if you are looking for a gym don't come to Abbeycroft, instead try one of the many options out there.
Update: Thank you for the email address Abbeycroft, which I have used but you have no acknowledgement email and I have head nothing since I sent my email on the 3rd of August.
If I could award you less than a star I would, as the situation is beyond a joke and as a service provider Abbeycroft leisure is failing its loyal customer base.
With regards to the equipment the Haverhill gym now has only 3 of the 8 upper body machines in working order.
Seated row has been out of use since June 9th
Shoulder press was out of use from Dec to mid-July, fixed and is now out of use again.
Chest press was out of use from Dec to mid-July, it was fixed enough to work then become faulty again then use able and is now yet again out of use.
Abdominal machine has been out of use since mid-July.
Lat pull-down is again a machine that was out of use from Dec to June, but is yet again out of use.
Unfortunately nothing has changed, other than those that work at Haverhill Abbeycroft leisure centre.
At the point of this review the gym has had equipment, which has not been maintained/repaired within the last 8 months.
Management have been contacted, but fail to reply to explain why the gym equipment fails to meet the basic needs of it's paying members.
This failing is not acceptable and anyone looking for a gym should try one of the cheaper competitors in...
Read moreWas really disappointed with the climbing experience here and in general the staff attitude. This was the first time we had been here, we walked into the front foyer and went towards the climbing wall we had booked. The person on reception (what we thought was just the swimming reception) shouted at us saying ‘where are you going’ in a tone like we were being told off. We have been to many climbing experiences before and the children have loved it. This one the parents were not allowed in to supervise their children, my daughter is 4 and I was very reluctant to do this as she is so young. Within minutes of climbing all 3 children separately came to complain about the harnesses hurting on their chest area. We asked staff if this could be adjusted and they just said ‘no that’s the way it is’, we have never had this issue before at other climbing places. After a couple more minutes the children all gave up as it was hurting so much. We went to reception to tell them as staff in the climbing area clearly didn’t want to help, they allowed us to swap to softplay instead of climbing but not before commenting that ‘the children were ok a minute ago’ like we were lying. 100% will not be coming back and will not be...
Read moreI was there for the soft play. Unfortunately the staff were playing very loud booming music from a large speaker system behind the soft play area. The sound of it booming everywhere. There did not appear to be any reason for it. When I politely asked them if it was normal to have music on they looked completely perplexed (as though they couldn't understand the point I was making). I said that having been to many soft plays in my lifetime (3rd child) it was very unusual. The staff said something about it being someone's birthday to which I replied 'so because one person wants loud music everyone else has to put up with it.' A lady standing next to me (who had a young 3ish year old and a newborn (breastfeeding) later said to me that she agreed with me and also had never come across this before. I also noticed several parents struggling to communicate with their children over the loud music. There may have been a reason for the music but not at that volume, and also I would expect to hear that KIND of music in a night club, not a children's play area. It's a real pity because it's actually a really great play area for the kids and the cafe and seating arrangement for the parents is pretty good as far as...
