Soccer Stuff — Local services in Acton

I’ll start with a little background, the positive, and then get into why I am only giving one star to Soccer Stuff. I am a father of 6 children who has to be very frugal with my money. We found Soccer Stuff and saw it was fairly close to our home, and decided to take my 3 sons there to see about getting them their first pair of soccer cleats, soccer socks, and shin guards. The young High School aged guy there was very kind and helpful and patiently helped get my boys the right size cleats, etc. As any American father with multiple children would do, I was also comparing same/similar cleats online since America thrives on capitalism and we are free to shop around for the best deals, best products, etc. Gas and grocery prices alone these days are astronomical! I had already decided I would purchase 3 pairs of soccer socks, three pairs of shin guards, and was pretty sure I was going to buy at least 2 pairs of cleats, and was leaning toward buying the 3rd pair as well. However, before I could communicate these intentions what must have been the manager? Owner? Supervisor? Came over to me, and almost immediately made it clear that I had crossed the line (in his mind) and that comparing their store’s prices with other prices on my smart phone was unacceptable since they had helped us with sizing, etc. It seemed clear to me this was an unreasonable man who could care less about me as a potential buyer, and was only concerned about his own ego and getting my money. I told all my boys to grab their things, and we left without buying anything, and went to Dick’s Sporting Goods in Nashua, NH, got better deals and had WAY more respectful and kind customer service. Today was our first and LAST time shopping at Soccer Stuff. I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND AGAINST GIVING THIS STORE BUSINESS. Customers are not obligated to spend money at a store just because employees are doing their jobs. This man obviously felt entitled to my money, but funny thing is, it’s not his.

5/5/24 update in response to Soccer Stuff initial response: We were not using your store as an “Amazon try on facility” I was very close to purchasing items from you. Second, I wasn’t making excuses, I didn’t need to, I told you I was shopping around, and that is ok to do. If you don’t like capitalism, you are doing business in the wrong country. I DID appreciate the 30 minutes you all took to help us, but if I the customer decide to walk out without buying anything, and if I want to compare your prices with Amazon, that’s my freedom to do so, and I’m not gonna be bullied into spending money at a business that feels entitled to my money. And we didn’t leave because you asked us to, I told my boys we were leaving when it was clear you were an unreasonable man...

I am updating my review. What a great experience! I wanted shoes for myself so I could practice with my son, but I have "problem feet". knowing that, I did NOT want to buy online.

So I did some brand research and went in to see if they had the brands-models I thought would be a good fit. They absolutely did! plus more. The staff really knew their products and took the time to listen to my issues and brought out the cleats I was looking at plus their own suggestions. I ended up going with Diadoras, a brand I never would have considered.

I worked retail sales myself for over 20 years and, as I tried on cleats, I watched them help another family. I was genuinely impressed with the staff friendliness, product knowledge and their level of customer service.

I wanted a second pair for "game day". They ordered a pair for me and called me when in, as promised. I picked up several other items: cones and game day match level balls. Their prices were reasonable. I wish they were closer, but, in the end, it was well worth the long drive from...

Not only is this a one stop shop for all things soccer, on two occasions, I ordered custom printed sweatshirts and they were ready in less than 24 hours. I ordered a last minute birthday gift on a Friday night and the owner told me they would be ready Monday. Then he emailed back and said I can have them done for you tomorrow, saving the birthday! Additionally, we used them to get coaches gifts for the team coaches and the quality of the sweatshirts and tshirts is top notch, meaning they will survive multiple washes!
