When we went in to join this gym around a year ago we kind of already knew this was our best option for distance from the house and facilities. But we were not expecting to be straight up “hustle talked” and pressured to get a membership THAT DAY. The manager kept trying to get the two of us to buy separate memberships- because of course that makes the gym more money, I get it- but I had to repeat multiple times that we would only be visiting together and we needed a joint plan. On top of that, I said we wouldn’t be coming into the gym for at least another week because of my work and I was pressured non-stop to JOIN TODAY JOIN TODAY! I was told that the money wouldn’t start billing until a certain date which I was fine with, but that wasn’t true. I started getting billed immediately and of course I was billed that date every coming month.
On top of this- this gym is waaaay too busy, I mean we even tried to go during down times and can’t find machines to use. We’ve had to straight up walk in and walk out sometimes. Pretty lame to be paying for a gym you can’t use.
“Some” of the staff is nice, but most of the greeters taking your card every visit don’t even look at you- it’s like a stereotypical secretary chewing bubblegum “too busy for you” attitude going on.
Now onto the final straw: and this doesn’t have anything to do with this particular club, but towards the company as a whole. I was charged directly after quarantine was put in place in March. Yes, emails went out saying members wouldn’t be charged for months they couldn’t use the gyms, but that was a lie. I attempted to reach out to the company for a refund for the month which I was wrongfully charged, and surprise surprise didn’t get any response. I had to dispute the charge through my bank. Even now, I have yet to receive any response back from LA Fitness. And I’ve yet again been charged for a month that I can’t use the gym (even though I don’t really want to...
Read moreI can't say enough about my personal trainer, Josh M,, at this LA Fitness in Agoura Hills. I've had numerous personal trainers over the years, most of whom were actually very good. But none compare to Josh. I have several physical issues that Josh addresses in each workout and amazingly, they are resolved through his extraordinary knowledge and experience. Along with a true passion for training and guiding his clients to a better quality of lifel. He really has given me a new lease on life through his training. I'm 71 and never thought I could achieve what I have...all because of Josh.
Unlike any trainer I've ever met, Josh makes every workout a positive experience tailored just for my needs. No session is ever the same and if I have a specific issue, he tailors that session to address and resolve that issue. Even my chronic back and shoulder issues are 100% better after workouts with Josh. He is more knowledgeable about the body, exercise and health than any trainer I've ever met. He constantly researches for new approaches to my health and workouts and again, unlike most other trainers, actually partners with me while training. I'm not kidding when I say that sometimes Josh is sweating more than me because he actually participates in my workouts. Not a minute passes when he isn't totally focused on what I'm doing. Maybe the highest compliment ever is that other trainers talk about how they strive to be like him. Josh is truly amazing!
He also happens to be a fun guy with a fascinating array of talents. I always look forward to my workouts, even knowing that it will often be very challenging and sometimes exhausting. But afterwards, I always feel so much stronger, energetic and overall better and friends and family even comment on how much better I seem to be from training with him. I highly recommend Josh M for...
Read moreThe facility itself is well-equipped and the addition of the Pilates studio is a strong highlight. However, there are several consistent operational issues that affect the overall member experience.
The restrooms are frequently unclean, particularly on weekends, and often have multiple units out of service. At the front desk, it’s common to see only one staff member checking in guests during high-traffic hours, leading to long wait times and unnecessary congestion.
There also seems to be a lack of experienced management on-site. One of the female managers, in particular, responds to member feedback in a dismissive and condescending manner. When I shared constructive feedback about a Pilates instructor who is still adjusting to teaching Sunday classes, the response was defensive and invalidating—“No, she’s great. I’ve taken her class.” Rather than listening to the concern or acknowledging the instructor’s new schedule, she minimized it by saying there had only been six complaints. This response is unprofessional and discourages members from offering future feedback. I’ve shared concerns over the past year and have never felt that they were acknowledged or addressed.
In terms of class quality, the Pilates programming has remained stagnant, lacking progression or variation. Sean and Julie are great. Additionally, the frequency of substitute instructors has become the norm, which further impacts the consistency and value of the membership.
Parking can also be challenging, especially during peak hours. While not a deal-breaker, it would help significantly to have at least two staff members at the front desk during busy times to improve flow.
Overall, this location has potential, but it would benefit greatly from stronger, more responsive leadership and a greater focus on member feedback and...
