We had the most amazing time hiking with Matt and George of Go Hike Alaska in the Chugach State Park. They made excellent companions and photographers and were incredibly knowledgeable guides. Everything about this outfit was first class! Booking with Chelsea was easy, and she helped us pick out the perfect experiences for our 2 days with them, suited for our goals and ability. Communication was frequent and informative so we always knew what the next steps were, including a needed meetup location change. Our first hiking experience in the Chugach State park was breathtakingly beautiful. Matt guided us through with amazing information on all the beautiful flora. We got to try some edible plants and felt confident in his knowledge of what was safe and tasty (although we won't be keeping a bowl of Spruce tips at our house for snacks). Taking us into some amazing places both on and off trail made our experience one to remember forever. We HIGHLY recommend this outfit for inexperienced hikers like us all the way to their more advanced Backcountry thru hikes for experienced hikers. Thanks Matt and George for an amazing experience!
Update: on our second hike (a full day 7hour 9mile hike with 2400' of elevation change), we experienced a hike through the alpine forest up into the tundra. We hiked through ice fields, through beautiful tundra, up steeper mountains than we expected 🥺, and were constantly amazed at the beauty of the scenery around us. The views down on the hidden mountain lakes were breathtaking. As always, Matt and his team (Madison and George) were expert guides and accommodating as it was a strenuous hike for us as more inexperienced hikers. But we would never trade the memories or pictures and felt accomplished after the long day. While our bodies were sore from the excursion, our souls were filled with the beauty and majesty of the Alaskan mountains. Thanks again to Matt and Go Hike Alaska for an...
Read moreWow wow wow. Our family of four (including 2 little girls aged 4 & 6) just had the trip of a lifetime. Matt planned our custom adventure from top to bottom. The first half of our trip to Alaska included visiting Eklutna Lake. Matt helped us get set up with bikes and kayaks. He picked us up from the airport and made sure we had everything we need to have a successful four days there. The second half of our trip included taking a flight with Alaska helicopter tours (arranged by Matt) and getting dropped off for a backcountry base camp at Inner Lake George. This entire trip was coordinated, arranged, and thoughtfully planned by Matt. Being a dad, he was beyond patient with understanding the limits of our kids. He let us take the lead on what we could handle. He fed us the most delicious backpacking food we’ve ever had to include reindeer sausage, and salmon belly. He had the hot water ready to go every morning for coffee and hot cocoa! What a delightful way to wake up! He knew what to do when the weather got bad, and his expert skills came in handy staking out the tent when wind speeds got up to 40 mph. On our hikes, he taught us so much about the flora. Our girls loved asking him questions about all the plants they found. He supplied super user friendly, stable, easy to paddle kayaks for kayaking out with the glaciers! He had the brilliant forethought to bring an Artic Oven tent (with a propane heater!) for our backcountry base camp. We easily dried all of our wet gear and the girls were able to play in a warm, cozy spot after adventuring out in the weather. Talk about being spoiled! I cannot recommend Matt enough for your custom tour. He will work with you to make the best fit for YOU. We just got home 2 days ago and are already missing being on our...
Read moreWe did the Summer Valley & Forest Hike on Sep 4 with our guide, Bryce, and two other hikers. This was an easy hike for us - largely flat, and beautiful throughout. Being new to Alaska, we didn't feel comfortable doing any hikes on our own, and Bryce was a fantastic guide. He was on time for our pickup, friendly and informative throughout the drive to the trail head, and best of all, he stopped the van along the way for a surprise moose sighting in a lake by the highway. We were able to capture some great photos and videos of the moose grazing in the lake, from a close but safe vantage point, and without feeling rushed.
Then the hike itself was great - again, beautiful throughout, and Bryce had great knowledge of the plants and area. He stopped a number of times to bring our attention to plants and mushrooms that are important or unique to the area and gave us time to admire the views at various stops (among them a stunning waterfall).
Be sure to bring water and snacks for the hike, as it's long enough that we got a bit hungry.
Go Hike Alaska has many offerings; this was the only one we did during our short Anchorage stay, but given our experience, we'll definitely seek them out again when back in the...
