My Mother Ms. Rebecca was the lead person in the Fairview Community to brainstorm how to have a community center for Fairview bthe city council decided Fairview didn't need one they sighted we the citizens of Fairview had the City Gym in downtown Anchorage but my mother Rebecca Kinney of Kinney's Beauty Salon and Spa wanted us the children of Fairview to have a recreation center of our own so she took the steps as the first Black Woman Cosmetologist (1951) She was a pioneer and sourdough I resently found the rough draft we.later went door to door with copies of this letter here at 1230 East 9th Ave our home sense 1951 here is one of the original typed up rough drafts. However, the last few times weâve been here, itâs been overtaken by much older kids(12+) who are straight up hitting each other,swearing and screaming. This used to be a fun place my special needs daughter and I could spend time after school, but due to the lack of supervision, my daughter doesnât feel very safe here or want to come here. When I try and tell the front desk they donât seem to care much.
