The quote "When one door closes, another door opens" really applies to this review.
My computer decided to make life difficult by dying----I mean flatlining, My immediate concern was data recovery. Yes, I am one of those people who do not make a habit of backing up data. My usual computer fix-it person was backlogged, and was unable to accept new business. A friend recommended DJ Computers on San Pablo Avenue in Albany. This advice turned out to one of the few bright spots during this COVID-19 ordeal.
Danny Gan, the owner, took my computer the same day--practicing impeccable social distancing and mask wearing protocol. Danny called later the same day to say that data recovery had been successful. Meanwhile, I decided to replace my computer.
So began a an epic journey that would have put Odysseus to shame. Rod Serling could not script an episode of Twilight Zone to describe the nightmare that ensued. Dante would have created a special circle of Hell. After the third delivery delay, I decided to forgive my old computer and give it a new lease on life. During this time of social isolation, one of the few links we have to the outside world is our computer. Danny understood this and once again came through. He fixed my computer the same day that I brought it back to him.
I cannot speak highly enough of this man. If you are looking for a
*professional that really knows computers
*someone who is ethical and trustworthy. (He never tried to take advantage of my vulnerability by overselling or trying to talk me into anything. In fact, he talked me out of buying a used computer he had in the store.)
*personable, customer-oriented owner
*store where prices are reasonable and fair
Danny Gan is the computer specialist you need.
So, one door closed, and another opened to...
Read moreI've been here several times now. I seem to have a knack for breaking expensive computers. It's a real benefit to have access to a shop like this in our little town. Danny is easy to work with, explains everything, and most importantly tries to give you the most honest advice, the cheapest path to repair (or to give up) to such an extent that I think he's actively working against his own interests of making money. He's charged me $75 for diagnostics in the past. Recently my friend spilled wine on my gaming rig, and Danny has been awesome. He charged $150 to take the entire thing apart, including opening up my 4090. He reported back that there was no visible damage to the 4090, that everything appears to be working and that if it acts up, motherboard next. The PC was so clean it looked brand new on return to me. Turns out it's still broken. Danny gave me the link to buy the part I need on Amazon for $150 used! He's charging me only $85 to swap the mother board. Can you imagine any retail shop making $0 off you on parts and charging such a reasonable price for repair? In the faceless corporation-rampant retail environment we now find ourselves in DJ computers is a gem and a reminder of what small, honest local businesses add to a community. Hopefully I will have less instance for repair in the future but if not I'm always a little less panicked knowing I can bring...
