I've visited this shop a few times over the last month to purchase supplies to go with a book called Make: Electronics, by Charles Platt. Electronics Parts Co has all the supplies specified in the book (which is just a starter), and the shop is laid out logically so that it's easy to find what you're looking for.
Honestly, I can't really imagine anything not being in this store. Sometimes they run out of certain parts, but it's no biggie to find them in other places if you know where to look.
For a guitar pedal circuit project, I did a price comparison between EPC and a US-based online supplier (in Brooklyn) who specializes in parts bundles for pedals. Electronics Parts Co. was directly comparable, and I think the quality of the parts might be better than what I would have received if I'd gone with a kit. I like to see the product up close and check for quality before I buy.
On many occasions, the staff has been helpful in finding what I need. I tend to arrive about 15 minutes before closing, and they have been polite about letting me finish my business before they close up. I'd recommend giving yourself a good 30 minutes' time to figure out where everything is and find what you're looking for if you have more than a dozen items you're looking for. Don't expect the staff to behave like the uniformed, corporate-trained "associates" you'll meet in other places (who often don't really know much apart from how to help you look for stuff). The staff know the products and are very efficient. They'll also help you with comparisons between other manufacturers' part numbers—they sell a ton of NTE components with product numbers that cross over to more well-known numbers from other manufacturers.
I'm so glad someplace like this exists, so I don't have to order online if I need one thing. With Radio Shack out of business, it's obvious how important it is to support your...
Read moreI absolutely love this store for all my electronics needs, pcb's terminal blocks, battery holders, wire, every size & type of connector, heat shrink, switch, zip tie, they have great tools by Klein, Wiha, Wera, Panavise, soldering tools... I can go on and on, and if they don't have it, they'll get it for you. Did I mention the ridiculously low prices? They have a giant selection of parts that cost a buck or two- no price gouging here. If you do any hobby that even remotely uses electronics and you haven't been here, you're missing out. Think of it as a Radio Shack with a Mom & Pop vibe,...
Read moreI went to buy a label maker with heat shrink They had a sale for $98 that included label and heat shrink tubing. The owner would not honor his sale item, he wanted to charge me $31 for the heat shrink tubing in addition to the sale price of $98 for the label maker. When asked him if he would honor his sale he took the display down ripped it up threw it in the trash and said it is what it is. I asked him if that's how he does business as a hypocrite he said yes. A man was such low integrity will not get my money and I will make sure I tell everybody about...
