Sky Nails & Spa — Local services in Albuquerque

I'm honestly sad to leave this review, because I've been going to this salon since they opened, but after today I will not be going back. The owner and the other women that work there do a fantastic job and the prices are good, but they really need to stop hiring their male relatives with 0 experience to work there. I call ahead to make appointments in advance. I have pictures with simple designs; I'm not high maintenance. I always tip, even when I don't get what I requested. I make an effort to speak Spanish with the Spanish-speaking nail techs. I don't know any Vietnamese, but neither do most of the other patrons. I do my absolute best to always polite and respectful to everyone there. The last few times I've gone in, I've been asigned to a man that is a lot less experienced. He doesn't really listen to me when I tell him what I want with pictures, and he doesn't ask clarifying questions. He makes extremely patronizing comments to me when I express discomfort, or express any dislike for what he's doing. He over drills into my nail beds and cuticles, doesn't know how to shape or layer products correctly, so they fall apart quickly, and he doesn't follow directions. He then proceeds to treat me like I'm being difficult when I try to provide correction or say something hurts. My visit today wasn't nearly as bad as last time, however, it did take almost 4 hours for a basic pedi with no polish and a refill, with an appointment. I said I didn't mind waiting, but 4 hours for basic services, with an appointment..., is excessive. I came in yesterday June 16, 25 for what i thought would be a rebase and had to get a new set altogether after showing Nina my nails. I had lost 2 nails on each hand and the rest were lifting and starting to come off. I barely had that set for a week. Needless to say i wont be returning to the salon i visited before coming to Sky. Nina did an excellent job of removing what was left of my old set and was very efficent on my new set. We had small conversations in between and I truly enjoyed her input on the design i chose. She also managed to squeeze me in for a pedicure afterwards; which i was more than grateful for due to their massage chairs. Thanh did a wonderful job on my pedi. I left extremely relaxed and happy after the experience. The only downside i had was the length of the nails (I'm used to a very short nail), which Nina was very understanding and fixed for me today. [June 17] I enjoy coming here, the atmosphere is quite relaxing and i love watching the cooking show they have playing in the background. Not happy with this salon. On Tuesday, the 20th of May I decided to treat myself and get my nails done after not being able to for months!!. I had Andrea (I remember the name cause it was like mine) I asked for a Short French-Tip acrylic set SHE TOOK TWO HOURS TO FINISH. I had to ask her to hurry cause I needed to leave. The next day my pinky nail fell off in my sleep, I wasn’t to mad and went back to fix it. The next day after that my right pointer finger fell off while standing in line at the gas station. The next day I lost 3 more additional nails. It is the 25th which I’ve had the nails on 5 days and they look like crap. I’m sooo upset!! We work hard for our money and to get cheap nails like this, I AM OWED A NEW SET THIS IS NOT WHAT I PAID FOR 😭 I’ve never been to a salon like this where the nails pop off doing absolutely nothing and I even tipped and was very patient STILL after sitting there that long.
