The way financial aid is being managed has been extremely discouraging. As students, many of us are already stretched thin financially especially while in nursing school. When aid is delayed, no clear information is given, and emails aren’t answered, it puts us in an impossible position.
Last semester, it was the same situation—I had to worry about paying out of pocket and waiting for aid to finally be applied. Now, this semester, tuition was due without any guarantee that aid would be posted in time, and the only communication we received was a vague notice right before classes started. Instead of reassurance or a clear plan, the responsibility falls back on us—either come up with the money immediately or risk being dropped. That kind of pressure is not fair, especially when these delays are completely out of our control.
I’ve never had this kind of issue at Valencia, where communication and financial aid disbursement were handled much more smoothly. It feels unprofessional that SSC can’t provide students with timely updates or a realistic timeline. All we’re asking for is transparency and consideration so that we can focus on school, not whether or not we’ll even be allowed to stay enrolled.
As a nursing student, this is especially stressful—we are consistently reminded of the importance of professionalism, punctuality, and communication, yet the school does not seem to uphold those same standards with us. It’s discouraging and I truly hope this is something the school...
Read moreI started at SSC in altamonte last summer for nursing and I so far love it and have appreciated my professors but I'm very disappointed in how the school has handled financial aid disbursement. There was also a delay last semester and I paid out of pocket for my classes and just waited for the refund to pay myself back. This fall semester has been even more delayed. Let's just say classes start Monday and we still don't have aid available in our accounts and are left in limbo to due to barely any communication on this issue from the schools end. I have had more beneficial updates from keeping up with the reddit where students are disclosing info they have gotten after being on hold for hours with the school or going in person and the answer was pretty much the same, supposedly they can see on their side there is aid available but we can't see it yet due to some new system they're using. Don't they think they could save us all some grief if they sent out a mass email to all students clarifying the financial aid delays and reassuring we won't be dropped from classes? No... instead we get one email 3 days before school starts that FA has just posted but it could still take 3-5 days to be available. No apologies, no clarification on classes or anything else. Very shady and unprofessional. They need...
Read moreIf you are in the nursing program at SSC in Altamonte Springs, know that you will not have any support from the Dean if issues arise and from 'professor' Mary Brown. This school does not properly vet their professors and hired this woman who talks down to students, tells them they they should not be nurses based on their religion, and will try to make school life harder rather than being a support. While I have graduated I wanted to make sure future students know that she does not have good intentions to raise the nursing profession but to act as if nursing is a 'cool girls club'. It was refreshing however to see the other professors in the nursing department take pride in their skills and education, while trying to help students excel and have availability should you have questions. The unprofessional nature in which she spoke to students was in stark contrast to other amazing professors that came later. I was also disappointed in the fact that the dean would falsely accuse a student of stealing their stethoscope when they had a receipt proving they bought said stethoscope. It seems the people they deal appropriate for the dean of nursing have prejudices and biases they should work on before sitting in a leadership role. Very...
