Really tired of this gym disappointing in services and being lazy in supporting their patrons. All the TV's in the exercise bike/treadmill room are currently blank and don't display anything except a blank screen, and has been like this for several days. This is unacceptable, as this is one of the main reasons I joined this gym. I could have gone to others if I didn't want something to view while running for long periods of time, but to have this gym not consider the impact this has on their patrons is unacceptable. I've been told by staff that this is due to a conflict the gym is having with mediacom... so what?!? It's not like your gym doesn't already make enough money to afford this, but even if you didn't want to pay mediacom, then go with a different provider or steam directly to the TV's with a different platform such as youtube, or just put on the TV what's broadcast on antenna. It doesn't take a genius to figure this stuff out so you don't negatively impact your patrons. There are several options you should be doing right now to address this, which are not just having a blank screen on the TV'S in the gym where I know I personally pay your gym enough in one year to afford a TV subscription for the whole facility.
In addition to this, in the past when the TV's have been working, the woman at the front desk in glasses with short hair (who is very rude and not nice) has stated that the gym doesn't ever change the channels on the TV's and only sets them at 4 channels. This is ridiculous! There is absolutely no reason you're not turning the channel on one TV to tune in for Iowa or Iowa State games, NFL games, etc. where the patrons of your gym want to view these events without being hassled by the gym staff that are either too lazy to bother or just have schadenfreude and just revel in holding power over others and making their life miserable. All viewer ratings show that sports events for the last 100 years have been the most watched programming on television, so why the heck would you not just try and make the majority of your patrons happy?!? There is absolutely no accountability for this gym and NO ONE at this gym cares about the patrons that attend. This is even more evident by their lack to even clear off sidewalks that are covered by snow and ice, but rather do a lackadaisical job and only clear half of a sidewalk. They don't clean the machines, there's mud on elliptical machines for days on end. This facility is just really poorly run and I can't abide this any longer, I pay too much money for this. You need to address these items asap or I am going forward and filing further complaints, including government agencies, both municipal and state level, as well as business level. I do want to give credit where it's deserving, and the staff, other than the short haired woman with glasses, are quite friendly. There's usually towels available for cleaning and such, and overall it's pretty good in that aspect. I just don't like that you make your patrons suffer in the other ways...
Read moreYou pay for your kids to have membership but there is very little they can do to exercise, unless you pay extra. Even while supervised, They aren’t allowed in the weight room, cardio room, elevated track. The pool almost always has lessons or classes going on so you can’t take them swimming. One time my son and his friend were the ONLY people in the pool and they actually had the audacity to kick my son and his friend out of the lap lanes. They have kids equipment but it’s located in an open area that I have to sit and watch my kid workout but we can’t work out together. Kids gyms are typically filled with older kids that are playing basketball so my 6 year old son can’t run there without getting run over or tripping on loose basketballs.
The kids youth room hours are totally geared towards stay at home mommy hours. Which is silly because the working folks actually can’t adjust their schedules to go to the gym when they want. They could probably have better weekend hours for the youth room if maximizing how much money they get from you wasn’t their primary concern (have to make money on parties on the weekend so close down the youth room for paying members, same with all the extra pay activities, no room for members when those activities are going on)
I agree with others comments that the staff are a bit rude. Some very nice ladies work there but the rest barely acknowledge you when you walk in or when you leave. To busy gossiping or doing nothing.
If you don’t have kids and just want to stay in the weight room and cardio area, you’ll probably be just fine here, except you’ll pay substantially more (which will increase more each year) than memberships at better facilities with...
Read moreAltoona Campus is a decent facility. Its pool is nice and divided up for folks who would like to swim laps or just wait in the pool. A con is that it is hot, humid, and stuffy in the pool area. Also, you can see rust on the ceiling rafters; not a good thing. The pool staff is nice but half the time they are sitting or standing together, and are staring at their phones. This needs to be addressed because in an emergency seconds are precious. The hot tub looks outdated but does a great job!
The basketball courts (2 separate spaces) are very nice but messy because a lot of the kids leave the basketballs on the floor and do not put them back in the basketball bin. It would be nice if there were some racks on the sides of the courts to not have all these basketballs on the floor. Also, the basketballs Altoona Campus provides are a mix of basketballs which are in bad shape to in ok shape. They should be replaced with more durable and reliable basketballs.
The track is a nice size but kids of certain ages are not allowed even if accompanied by an adult. This policy needs to be changed. Same goes for the hot tub age policy.
The weight room and exercise room are a nice size with plenty of space. The racquetball courts need to go though as I have never seen anyone use them or play in there. Maybe if they convert them to pickleball courts more folks would use the space. If the racquetball courts weren't there, they could expand the weight room or put more exercise equipment in there.
Lastly, the family locker rooms are great but always full. These need to be expanded as more families need these locker...
