MUST READ: An unassuming establishment, sitting off the boulevard, buffered by what I'm only estimating is an acre of unkempt blacktop. As I entered the "showroom" I was surprised by the size. The real estate term would be... "quaint". It was clean and organized, however more than 3 patrons waiting gives it the feel of the DMV on a Saturday morning. In stark contrast to the understated, modest physical environment, there was an air of pretension that could fill Heinz Field. You get the impression that no one there would dare to break wind lest they were perched upon their chamber pot, alone in the dark, with the blinds drawn and an acetone pressing of Debussy playing on the Victrola. I handed over a $5000 set of rings, gave her my phone number, and in return was handed a blue ticket stub. I was told these things are usually done in 24 hours, this was Wednesday August 12th. When I didn't hear anything back come Friday, I made my way to the store to inquire. I was met by a gentleman who explained to me that he "was having trouble getting it clean" and that the ultrasonic cleaning bath was extracting from my wife's ring an "oily residue" that "smelt of perfume". He told me that getting the ring clean was essential before the rhodium dip because "A bottle of rhodium costs 900 dollars” and “I don't want to contaminate my rhodium" He told me it would be done “early next week”. I received a missed call on Monday and assuming the rings were done I stopped by the store. I was told that there was an issue, stones had come loose in his attempts to clean it, and he didn't feel confident enough to tackle it. He then told me that he (without consulting me) had shipped it to be repaired and that it would be done in a few days. Friday comes, I stop to check progress. I was told he "must be having trouble" and "beginning of next week"... WEDNESDAY the following week comes, I stop by, no ring, no explanation, "beginning of next week". FINE. WEDNESDAY... stop to check, no ring, A younger man behind the counter said "Well I'm sure he has OTHER customers". Before I could school this lad on the facts that I was only this mystery repair person's "customer" by proxy, and not by my own choice, the owner stepped into the doorway of the back room. He proceeded to give me the "I don't know what you want me to do, this wasn't our fault, when we get it, you'll get it" song and dance. He then proceeded to say, and I quote, "WHEN THIS IS ALL SAID AND DONE I DON'T WANT TO SEE THIS RING BACK HERE. TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE. TAKE IT TO WHERE YOU BOUGHT IT". I asked "when might my ring be done?" “Tuesday”... Guess what. It wasn't. THURSDAY, more than 4 WEEKS after dropping the ring off, I received it back. I asked for a bill, he told me no charge. I asked for a receipt, proof that I was there and what was done to my ring. He patronizingly said "I don't know what you want. You're not paying anything. You have your drop of tab. Everyone knows you were here, we wouldn't deny that". I asked if there was a guarantee on the repair work that was done. He replied in an ambiguous, dodgy fashion, using phrases like "maybe" and "somewhere in THEIR print". I left there and immediately took it to a REPUTABLE jeweler in town. One my family has dealt with for years. I told him this very story and asked that he inspect the "work" that had been done. He looked me in the face and asked "Did they hand you this ring back like this" His disbelief was palpable. Attached are pictures. I guess when I get it back from being PROPERLY fixed, my lawyer, wife, and I will decide what to do with the bill. Mr. Dorman, I know that culpability, responsibility, and dignity are foreign concepts to a "businessman" trying to avoid the financial burdens of his own incompetence, LUCKILY final judgement shall not be passed by your fellow man, it will be God. (or a small claims court judge) (UPDATE)...and now he personally attacks a disabled veteran with a legitimate medical exemption from masks... Class act! Do you know what legitimate means? or are you googling...
Read moreCame to Dormans, because we needed a ring that was brand new(never worn) resized. They didn't offer any concerns about the ability to resize it at that time. We were unable to purchase the ring in the size needed. My fiances family knows the owner, so we had high hopes. We dropped it off the same day it was purchased. That was a Thursday, we were told it may be done Saturday. When my fiance called to check in on Saturday, we were asked if it would need to be re rhodiumed(we were never originally asked this). We said yes, because the ring was show room condition and we wanted it exactly as it was when it was dropped off. They stated that it wouldn't be done til Monday then, and we were fine with that. We went back that Monday, and it has been a nightmare ever since. They have taken my ring back three additional times, and it still isn't right. Two weeks we have been trying to get this worked out. The size is fine. The band is unlevel and the ring has marks on it from them working on it that were not fixed before they sent it back to us. My fiance picked it up, and he has poor vision. When he called and brought our concerns to them this final time, he said he was basically yelled at. We were told that three different people layed eyes on it and didn't see any problems before it was given back, and I think that makes it worse, because they thought that was acceptable to send out the door with their reputation for good work. I understand they are human and don't use the machines for their work, but the work done to my ring wasn't poor because they are 'human.' It is just low quality, period. They ruined a $4000 ring and I now have to take it to another jeweler to be fixed, and they lost a potential...
Read moreI did speak directly to you. I told you that you bought jewelry that was stolen from my Mother when she died. I even told you who you bought it from and you acknowledged it. I asked you for a list of items that he sold you right after it happened. You said you had to look through your invoices to find it. I drove three hours three times and called multiple times. You just kept blowing me off.
Unethical. I used to buy jewelry here every year when I was younger. Recently, my family and I were victims of unethical business practices by Dorman's. I spoke with the owner on multiple occasions and he just kept blowing me off. I recommend any other jeweler, especially when dealing with...
