I have used Argyle Auto Care for about 10 years for routine maintenance on 3 different vehicles. It is convenient to my house and I like supporting a local business. Last month a headlamp bulb went out in my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee so i purchased the recommended bulb at OReilleys and took my vehicle in for what i thought would be a quick inexpensive replacement. BUT NO!!!!! They informed me that they would have to remove the bumper and replace the entire headlight assembly on both sides for $1600!!!!! The service tech said it appeared someone had damaged the sprocket holding the bulb and it was not repairable. After 3 visits and conversations with the technician and manager, and my vehicle front end torn down , i gave in. After this experience, I decided to NEVER take my vehicle to Argyle Auto Care AGAIN. So today I took the Jeep to Kwik Kar in Lantana for the regular oil change. The tech at Kwik Kar could not get the oil pan plug out and said it was rounded off. It did not appear it had ever been replaced which is recommended at every oil change. After beating the plug with a hammer for about 30 minutes, they finally drilled out the old plug and proceeded to complete the oil change and install a new one. They tested for leaks and found none at the time. It is yet to be seen if the inside threads on the oil pan are stripped from never being replaced by Argyle Auto Center.
I have NEVER posted a bad review on any business in my entire life. However, this time I feel it is warranted and other customers should be warned about the service at this establishment. Sometimes local businesses earn your trust and over time get complacent about the level of service they provide. New management, turnover, growing pains, whatever...... I believe this is the case with Argyle Auto Care as they used to be the BEST...
Read moreI used these guys for years for both family vehicles. Not anymore after getting charged $300 for an AC evac and recharge that couldn't/shouldn't have taken place, unless the compressor miraculously started working after they charged the AC and then stopped working again the moment I picked the vehicle up.
I didn't ask for the system to be recharged. I knew the compressor was bad and assumed it would need to be replaced. Per your own write-up, "DOES NOT SEEM LIKE THE COMPRESSOR IS ENGAGING. CHECK AND ADVISE AS TO NEEDED REPAIRS". I got a call stating the system had been recharged. But it shouldn't have been. The compressor is bad! I should have only been charged labor for inspecting the system and then advised on what repairs are necessary.
Instead, I have to pay for an evac and recharge that didn't work (of course, because the compressor is leaking), so I was surprised to find that it was even attempted (especially since I didn't ask for it). They also told me that the evaporator core is leaking and suggested a complete AC kit for roughly $1800.
UPDATE: I bought a compressor online for $150 and ended up replacing it myself. After installing the compressor, it held a vacuum at -30 for over 36 hours. NO LEAK anywhere else in the system. Charged it with 2 cans of R134A and system works fine one week later.
I will never take my vehicle to this...
Read moreMy wife's car overheated after picking up our kids from daycare. This was closest place as she couldn't go more than 10 mph. When she arrived they told her car was overheated and would need to cool off before looking at it the following day. It wasn't until the afternoon when we finally heard the fan motor was broken and needed to be replaced. Quoted cost was $950 bucks. With price being that high we called around to other places we have used in the past and was quoted about 200 dollars cheaper. We preferred to just keep the car there and have them do the work and asked if they would price match. They said not interested and we are welcome to take the car elsewhere. So that is what we did. When we went to pick up the car we were charged $75 bucks for a diagnostic fee (which my wife asked if there was one when we dropped car off and we were told no). We disputed this in person to which they said "It is just business". We ended up taking the car to the place we have used in the past and rented a car for the day. We live in argyle and this location is 3 miles from our house. Incredibly disappointed and the lack of awareness to realize that a potential long term customer was just lost over a $75 diagnostic fee and a 200 dollar price match. After all it is just...
