UPDATE: The store manager did reach out and offer me a credit of $10. She was VERY kind and apologetic. I'll still check on all online orders (honestly, I should anyway), but am thankful that Mr. K's Used Books once again won my business!!
Love this store!! However, when you order online ALWAYS ALWAYS call the store the next day to confirm! I called 4+ days after placing the order to follow up on delivery (ordered a book for my birthday and hoped to have it in time). They asked if they could call me back as they see the order but no clue why it wasn’t fulfilled. I called them back 5 hours later bc no word yet. Long story (and a few calls and defunct emails) short, they acknowledged an error was made on their end (they listed a book in inventory that was not in the inventory) and could not fulfill the order. They were kind and apologetic for not getting back to me sooner, but until I called it had fallen in between the cracks. They understood I missed getting it from another dealer due to their delay and that this was a birthday gift to myself, yet offered no credit due their error for the wasted time in waiting now 5 days for it. That could have been managed a little better (I mean, even a $10 credit could have made for customer feel respected … that part really bummed me out on top of no bday gift). This could be a rarity with ordering online and I still definitely suggest this store, but just a heads up on ordering online....
Read moreThere is a lot to love. Unless you have a massive stack of books, they will usually be able to review what you have brought in and give you store credit while you wait.
The comics and graphic novels section is excellent, and they have some really fun bobble heads.
The YA section is also really wonderful! And the staff members are always there with a quick recommendation, based on what you have liked in the past.
Oddly large selection of books that would make great gifts, such as coffee table-type books, and photo books.
When I need books for high school classes for my teens, they are near the register, and I don’t know how they get the list, but they usually have what the local high schools are reading right up front in the fall, ready to go (I know some of it is intuitive and they need a certain amount of Austin and Mary Shelley etc).
Negatives: The only negative that I see is sometimes their games seemed priced oddly. The other day I saw a new board game packaged up that was three dollars cheaper than the used version of the same game. So don’t know what is going on with their pricing...
Read moreGreat for books, music, and movies but sometimes a bit outrageous with yellow ticket item mark-up, especially board games. Don't get me wrong: the staff is great and I know the business model requires a certain amount of mark-up, but charging new prices for used things, while lowballing credit given for those same items, is venturing a little into classic Gamestop territory. I've had credit at the store for 3 years now because every time I visit, the only used books/CD's/records/games I'm interested in are yellow-stickered. Even if you traded in an autographed Beatles record, you wouldn't be allowed to buy yellow stickered items with credit. I know this is one of the ways they make money, but it still stings when you trade in high value items and are told you are allowed to buy anything except the items you are interested in. In summary: fantastic selection and staff, but you're gonna get burned if you trade in records and/or games expecting to get the same with the credit you receive. As long as you stick to trading used books for used books, you'll...
