TOPS Friendly Market — Local services in Athens Township

I have shopped in several Tops, however have installed scales, wrappers, prepack equipment, ovens proofers, slicers and more in Grocery stores in 17 states. This store like many offer the basics, to me that is all. They remind me of Byrd’s from NC. However, the customer service at Tops is the worst I’ve seen out of all the brands I have shopped in or serviced. At this location, I simply needed quarters to use at the Hotel next door. The cash came from the onsite ATM. The customer service rep was not friendly even after I smiled, and greeted her respectfully. When I asked for quarters for the laundry, she stated she only had enough for the register, I offered to buy something to get change, she stated she only had enough for the day. I have never known a store that knew exactly how much change they would need, or put off a customer. I buy a lot of groceries when on the road due to many restaurants dropping standards. I travel with a cooking kit, and spend up to $250 a week in groceries. I am around Tops a lot when I travel to service my customers. From here on, due to Tops lack of customer focus, and entitled view, I’ll bring my Groceries from Giant. Too bad I can’t get a Publix this far north. I did send an email to a friend to let them know that there is a great opportunity up here. Tops customers don’t know what they are missing, I do, without good customer service you loose customers. You lost 1k from me in just the next month. I also talked to some locals in Sayre, including the Hotel. They currently shop at Walmart. If I managed a grocery store that pushed customers away to the competition....I would probably work for Tops. The other brands won’t tolerate it. Hopefully there will be a quality store to compete against Tops in the Future. I have only shopped at 6. In NY I prefer Stop and Shop, in PA it’s between Wise, and Giant. Publix blows away all competition, they are only as far north as Maryland for now.

The customer service desk represents both the store, the store management, and the brand. If they are rude, or don’t care, that speaks for the company. I would not trust any other products knowing they take customers for granted. I will not go into what I found at other locations, since I never bought anything from this store due to Customer...

Always easy to shop this store. Seems like everything is intuitively laid out and easy to find what you maybe looking for. Toothpicks are with the paper products though. Place is still a win-win. Some things are at a higher price, but if you're just dropping by to pick up a few things, ok. Still an enjoyable shopping experience. Would ship here more if prices were a bit more competitive. Every shopping experience at "competition" walMart is an exercise in frustration and a lot of times of futility. They are one of the WORST stores I've had the misfortune to shop in. I AVOID it as much as l can. Tops try to be a bit more competitive with walmart. You have them BEAT IN CUSTOMER SERVICE hands down. WAAAAY BETTER than Walmart. Enjoy shopping here. Still great place to shop. Beats the pants off wm. NO freight in asiles and NO wm shoppers for customers pick up. Their kamikaze with little regard for shoppers safety. Stopped off at Tops last night to purchase my favorite cheese. It's the only grocery store in my area that carries my Finland's low-fat swiss! There was a young man behind counter, that was cleaning off the meat slicer! I approached the counter and asked for a pound of my cheese! "He said, I'll be with you in a moment!" I responded with..." Thank you!" It must have been a slow evening....because there were no other customers at the Deli! I waited for 15mins! The young man continued to clean the slicer! I walked away from counter! Tops is one of my favorite grocery stores! But, when you approach a Tops employee, there's always a smile of respect! The employee will ask what they can help you with! This young man never smiles. He looks like he's not happy being at his job! Maybe, his employer might want to find a different position for him! He's obviously not a people person! We all have jobs that must be done! But, if it takes 15mins. to wait on a customer, and there's no others standing there at counter to be waited on..Then this to me is looking bad...
