Disco Salon — Local services in Atlanta

In the past I have been fortunate to work in salons for many years until I moved to Atlanta and changed careers. Thus began the search for someone new to whom I could entrust my hair. My tresses are thick with a bit of natural wave and curl, and it requires someone with confidence and know-how to give them the proper treatment. A quick Google search landed me on the Disco Salon website and I discovered Jo! I liked what I saw of their Instagram and messaged to inquire about a consultation. They replied quickly with enthusiasm to set up a consultation. Once I was there we talked through a plan and pricing and scheduled an appointment. On the day of my appointment I walked away so pleased with not only my hair, but the conversation to boot. Jo is a fantastic human who so obviously enjoys what they do. Thanks so much!!!! Jo was an incredible stylist who truly listened and took my personal style and ideas into account for a hairstyle I’ve been developing over several years. They helped refine the lines of my cut with care and precision, walking me through the entire process with patience and attention to detail.

The salon itself fosters an atmosphere of acceptance, especially for neurodivergent individuals and those exploring identity expression. It felt like a genuinely safe and welcoming space. Somewhere I could relax and feel at ease.

The waiting area, though I didn’t spend much time there as I arrived early, was cozy and thoughtfully equipped with fidget toys and reading materials. The salon is housed in a beautifully renovated church, which really highlights the love and intention poured into the space.

Beyond the talent of the stylists and the inviting environment, the booking process was smooth and inclusive. It asked thoughtful, relevant questions for clients who may have sensitivities or specific preferences, all without a hint of judgment.

Josh has been doing my hair for years and I can’t imagine seeing anyone else for cut and color! I rarely have an idea of what I want when I come in; he just has gotten to know me and what I like and what I’m comfortable with over the years to the point the cut and color always turns out perfectly. He’s the first person to ever professionally color my hair. He’s a true chemist and artist with color theory and will let you know what is involved with your cut and color...expectations, maintenance, health etc. I’ve never felt like I’m being sold a service or product. I feel like the prices are on par for the quality and results. His salon is in a stand alone room in a shared building and he’s super diligent about keeping a clean environment and wearing a mask (and requiring clients to do so as well), so I’ve felt safe seeing him during the covid-19 pandemic. Booking is easy via the website and reminder texts are sent to your phone, which is nice for people like me who can use all the reminders they can get.
