Petit Chou oozes with cozy brunch vibes. From the outside, I admit I wasn't expecting much since it sits so nondescriptly on a quiet street. But once my friends and I stepped inside, it was beautifully quiet and intimate. The main dining area has a number of tables and counters, while the bar area in the center takes up most of the space.
At my friend's recommendation, all of us ordered the golden turmeric latte (nondairy milks available). I don't think I would've ever ordered it for myself on the menu, but there were ZERO regrets about getting it. It came perfectly sweetened with a light foam cap and a dusting of turmeric powder that compelled me to announce - "It's good and good for me!" (FYI - turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory ingredient).
For breakfast, I ordered the American breakfast platter to get a little bit of everything. Like a combo plate, it comes with a choice of grits or potatoes, eggs, and a choice of protein. There was a lot to love here - Petit Chou is very vegetarian friendly (veggie sausages available for the American breakfast). I ordered my eggs scrambled, and I'm not sure what the chef does to them but the texture was almost cloud-like. Both carb options are stupendous. I ordered the potatoes but specially requested some a la carte grits on the side (because why choose when you can have both?). I would've loved for the potatoes to be a little crispier, but they were seasoned well. The fact that I ate until I scraped the bottom of the cup of grits probably says something about how well those are done here.
Most of all, I appreciated that there was nothing particularly out there or unusual on my plate, but every single item on my place was executed to a tee. The brunch menu is simple - a mere page long - but I have no doubt they're all tasty.
Finally, the servers here are amazing. When our server, Danny, noticed my friends and I were meeting for the first time in awhile, he gave us plenty of time and space to gab while looking over the menu. He was also able to walk us through the menu since we had a number of dietary restrictions. Our food arrived at our tables in fair time, and there was no pressure to rush out after our last bites.
Some final details - For those preferring to dine outdoors, there's an adjoining covered space with some generous picnic tables. It's right next to the humbly-sized parking lot (which, on my estimate, would probably fit about...
Read moreAfter seeing Petite Chou months ago, while sitting in traffic, I made a mental note to check it out. One weekend, I made a wrong turn while hungry and realized it was the perfect opportunity to check the restaurant out for breakfast!
When I walked in there wasn't a sign indicating whether or not to seat yourself. So, I sat myself at a table near the door.
I sat and waited for a waiter to come, go through the usual pleasantries, talk about the menu, and take my order.
I waited and waited.
I noticed a waiter not far from me. She was engaged in a long conversation with a patron and was not paying attention to her surroundings. So, I continued to wait. Granted, the restaurant was busy. However, at a certain point I waited so long that I thought about leaving particularly when I saw people who had come in after me being warmly greeted, seated, and presented with menus.
Then I thought I'll just wait to see how long this was going to take. Maybe most of the patrons were regulars and why I went unnoticed for a while? It seemed very much like a friendly neighborhood place.
After waiting for over 10 minutes, and ever closer to 15, a cordial waiter greeted me and from that point everything went ok. My waiter went away for too long, but other waiters were helpful. The food was delicious and the grits outstanding.
I'm almost always willing to give a restaurant a second chance if the food is good and when the restaurant inspection score is 90+. Operating a restaurant is NOT easy work and, therefore, I'm readily willing to cut some slack when I think it's warranted. So, I will go back and hope for an improved experience.
Rocky start aside, the food was obviously high quality, well prepared, and delicious! I will go back with my...
Read moreWe had heard this place was amazing, and I had wanted to go for 4 months since we moved into the neighborhood. We waited for 25 minutes after the hostess told us 45 minutes, which was fine. The coffee maker outside was broken and it was cold, so two of us walked to Atlanta Dairies to get us hot coffee while we waited thinking we would have plenty of time. They called us very early, and seated us but the waitress did not come to even greet us for 20 more minutes sitting at the table. Ten minutes before the waitress came back our friends returned with our coffees but were told to throw them away because they didn't want outside drinks even though we told them the coffee maker was broken. Once seated I noticed a woman in the back who had an outside water bottle. This is terrible, inconsistent customer service treating people who wait for a long time to even be served. They absolutely have the right to lose sales over a 3 dollar coffee, but the rudeness of the manager who didn't care about our experience ruined it all. And then after waiting a total of 90 minutes, there was a hair in my food. They did take it off the bill, but I wasn't going to wait another 30+ minutes for another sandwich. It is probably not the fault of the individuals but the upper management not empowering them to focus on customer service. I will make sure not to take any visitors to Petit Chou as it was a royal waste of our time for...
