Five Below — Local services in Aurora Township

I’m just going to put this out there. As an ex-five below worker, the whole “associate check out” thing isn’t up to us workers, including management within the store either. A lot of decisions that are made come from corporate. Even in our training videos, they have the ACO’s, which are what the cash machines are called not self checkout but “assistant checkout”, and we’re taught that we check people out. For the first few years of that location being open we did let people check themselves out with supervision, but with how much loss the store was experiencing per-year, changes had to be made. We associates would much rather not check anyone out due to how some customers are, we’re people too, no one wants to get yelled at for just doing their job. There are many other locations in the area that provide regular checkout experience using a register, Batavia and Oswego, as a matter of fact. But anywhere that has aco’s most likely you’ll be checked out by an associate. If not that then we’ll have the place squirming with security guards and that’s really...

It’s just like most Five Below’s but what’s really annoying is they have it set up for self check out and they won’t let you self check out. That makes it feel very distrusted. It gives a whole different vibe in this store. There’s multiple other options I will be choosing in the future and suggest you do the same. They closed all the self check out with out of service signs and do it themselves with you next to them it’s very offputting. I don’t mind if you wanna check me out but then do it like a normal register. Don’t treat me like a child, like I don’t know how to do this. It feels very mistrusting. Change your setup like regular stores or let me check my self out....

Very rude staff! I went there today about 4pm, checked out and there was a lady standing in the self checkout I didnt know if I should check out on my own or have he assist since she was just looking at me and not saying anything so I started to self check out as soon as i paid, my daughter and I were walking to the exit and she rudely says oh now people wait 'till I leave to take something. I immediately questioned if that was towards my daughter and I and she just rolled her eyes and I said I would have no reason to steal from five below and I had my receipt and I let her know she was very rude and we left.
