Yesterday was my 58th Birthday and my daughter and 4 grandchildren wanted to take me skating at the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex in East Austin on Hargrave. I arrived at 6:30pm an went inside of the building. There was no one at the front desk window area so I just went inside and took a seat at a table in the food court area. There was a young person sitting at a table with her feet propped up on her cell phone chilling talking, and me in the room. She never acknowledged me as a customer. But later come to find out she was an employee. A guy came to serve himself in the area and I ask him if he works there and he said no. Now it's a good 30 minutes that Ive been inside and this employee is still on her phone and ain't acknowledged me.. Im a party of 8. This business is closed still for the holidays and I get that...so why didn't that employee first acknowledge my presence, then tell me that when I walked in or after a few minutes of waiting looking lost like I'm waiting for some fun.... instead of letting me waste my time ? Black Businesses that allow poor customer service can't complain when your reviews are real. You allow that at your establishment...then accept what we say about better service elsewhere. I wouldn't tell any of my friends or family to come to the Millennium simply because of that female employee that sat there on her phone for the entire time that I was there and never acknowledged my presence. Poor customer service is one thing that will make review a business...
Read moreThis place was built with a purpose. To service a greater East Austin. (The Youth) Before all of the regentrification. Raters please look up and read about this on the MYE website. The locals around this place, are descendents of the elders that worked hard, all of their lives to provide permanent residences for their children. Most of the families in East Austin had lower incomes but they worked, with what they had to provide for their families. Some families took the little they had, built homes or bought homes for lower cost. Imagine raising your children and grandchildren in a home to have the property taxes raised, to the point where you can no longer afford a home, that has always belonged to your family. Austin has always catered to the wealthy. There were no entertainment facilities in East Austin. No bowling no arcades. Nothing to cater to the children of the community. The Millennium was built to provide hope and play for the children who were less fortunate. The Millennium provided a safe place for the children to hang out. The Millennium was built in the memory of the East Austin children that were murdered in cold blood. So please..... before " YOU " new people from different places rate and give suggestions on this place, do some research on the history of it. Those that can afford to why don't you all...we all set up a fund to make this place better. Let's fix the arcade!!!!!! Let's provide new skates or whatever other...
Read moreI like this rink(buffed/shiny, smooth concrete) better than Playland(glossy, bumpy, uneven hardwood). It's always clean and rates are great. However, every time I go, they have rap/r&b music playing loudly. On one occasion there were a handful of kids under 10 years old and the guy that sets up the music didn't do anything about the fact that there was negative and foul language being blasted every few seconds until one of the moms went over and asked him to please change it.
The staff seems pretty helpful and friendly but seriously, the music ruins it for me (my headphones didn't block it out enough).
Note to management...if you want to attract a more diverse clientele... I highly suggest the music selection not be geared primarily to the staff and/or a few local patrons. Or better yet, have themed days/hours and post that info on your webpage.
As others have mentioned, don't forget to lock ...
