An unfortunate, sad and downright laughable situation Roy Kizer (and Jimmy Clay) has on its hands. Here is the deal, if you absolutely LOVE golf than you can get by. The reality (if you don’t already know) is that Roy Kizer shut down its golf course 2 years ago to “reshape and refresh the greens”. Well, sorry to inform anybody but they are gone… I mean actually dead. The grass is not coming back this year. As in, it’s a wash for these courses. They won’t tell you that when they call and they won’t give you any kind of discount when you complain- it’s kind of just a “not my problem” kind of culture here. When you walk into the pro shop, those guys are so incredibly rude it’s almost like they don’t like that you are there at all… they give your the feeling that you are trespassing on their property.. I don’t know, it’s hard to explain but whatever it is, it’s not friendly. My last complain is the extremely unhinged “Marshall” who moved us along a hole (with nobody behind us) because we weren’t playing fast enough. We finished in 3 hours and 55 minutes (we were forced to pick our balls up and move on a hole or I think that figure would be more like 4 hours and 10 minutes). What a joke Austin muni golf has become. And it’s sad because I LOVE this property. This is how much they care- they won’t even reply to this...
Read moreUpdate : Water back on the course, refreshment cart going around. Course is still in good shape. Thanks Kizer/Clay! —— (4-star) Course is in solid shape but if you go play, you better bring your own water because there’s none to drink out on the course. (Which is wild considering how hot it’s been).
You’ll rarely see a refreshments cart (not sure they even have one anymore). If you do, it’s like seeing an oasis in a desert.
Oh and if you tee off in the afternoon, plan ahead for food because the clubhouse closes at 6pm… even on Friday’s (and I’d assume the weekends as well.)
With the pace of play out there lately, you’ll have time to kill between holes…
So in short, plan ahead and bring your own cooler with...
Read moreI’ve been playing Kizer and its sister course Clay for decades. Great complimentary courses. Both courses have new greens and are in great condition. Kizer is in slightly better shape than Clay. Kizer is the closest thing Austin will come to a links style course with wide open fairways, large sand and grass bunkers throughout, and 14 holes with water in play from the tips. Unfortunately, half of the ponds are dry and filled with vegetation due to error in building the ponds….still they are true hazards. Also, only number 17 has trees in play. The staff is great…very friendly and competent. Also has good practice facilities. City of Austin golf has one of the best municipal memberships in Texas, especially...
