This is a 100% unsolicited honest review. Our family is no stranger to a car buying experience. However, first time being treated above and beyond, all mostly due to one person, Fernando Villagomez. Folks, this man is legendary, and I’ll get into details in just a bit. Before joining Motor City Lexus of Bakersfield, my wife and I went on a finding spree for a new vehicle around March 2022. For the first time ever, we’ve seen something called a “markup” or “after market addons”, costing anywhere from, to the tune of, $5,000 to $60,000
It was also around that time that we made an online inquiry at Motor City of Lexus. This is where our story of a car buying experience takes a compete U-turn. The gentleman who answered our inquiry was named Fernando Villagomez, a salesman unlike any other. Picture this: it’s early 2022, dealerships have no cars, waiting list for anything is with four wheels is 6+ months, and only thing salespeople are offering you is a place on a waiting list, assuming you can pony up the $1000 to reserve a spot. Fernando begins by asking us not just what model of a car we wanted but what features we wanted to have. For those keeping the score, Lexus and Toyota have long stopped taking custom orders, yet Fernando decides that no, that’s not acceptable, and asks us exactly what we want. We gave him our list and less than an hour later he sends us a PDF of a car. My wife and I were in a bit of a shock. How is it that this man has a car and no one else does?? So we look over the PDF and tell him what’s missing. He then sends us a PDF with a BUNCH more Lexus vehicles, all which to a degree fit our specifications, some even perfectly!
Folks… this deserve a new paragraph. Listen… while every single dealership is telling us what they do not have, Fernando Villagomez is showing us what they WILL have, and all we have to do is choose! Yes, you choose, he will find you one! Yes there is a waiting list but he will find you the car of your dreams! You want that pano sun roof? You’ll have it! You want 360 camera? You’ll get it! I cannot even begin to tell you how relieving it felt having options in a market where none existed! This genius sold us a car he did not even have! The best part is, he delivered!! Granted, it took 10 months, but today, we just drove home in a brand spankin’ new 2023 Lexus NX 450h+ virtually fully loaded. The man stayed true to his word and I’m a living breathing customer who can attest to this.
Now, if it was just getting what you wanted, that would just make Fernando awesome, but I did mention earlier that he is legendary, correct? What separated Fernando Villagomez from others and established him as a paradigm salesperson, was the final 3 hours at the dealership. Folks let me ask you, what’s your biggest anxiety when it comes to buying a car? For many of us it’s how much are you going to end up paying for it. We’ve all heard the stories of slithery finance managers who will try to sell you snake oil, prey on your enthusiasm, and take your wallet for a ride. I bet you don’t often hear things like “here is what you’ll be paying for the car, brother, no hidden fees, no markups, this is the out the door price unless you choose an optional package”. Yes, a choice! Do you want to pay more? No? Then you will not! A lot of you may ask, okay but what about the F&I, how are they? Fernando PERSONALLY went to talk to the finance manager and came back with a rate that rivaled our preapproved bank rate.
For anyone out there where this is your first time buying a new car, please do yourself a favor. Personally ask for Fernando Villagomez. I promise you, this is a man you want in your corner to guide you through the process. You are already buying a Lexus, a 2021 JD Power award winner of the most reliable car brand in the United States. I reached out to Motor City Bakersfield because I knew they were one of a few dealerships that sells Lexus' at MSRP currently. Kenny picked up the phone and was straight forward with me at the very beginning. I understood that there is a wait time due to supply chain issues and was already waiting at another dealership for an allocation. He was very clear at setting the expectation for the vehicle and provided me with all the info I needed. I told him exactly what I was looking for. He was very responsive to all my questions.
I placed a deposit with Kenny and by the weekend Kenny had found a car at another dealership matching what I was looking for. I didn't expect to get the car right away and thought I had to wait for an allocation. I was not able to make it into the dealership as I live in the Bay Area so Kenny was able to deliver the car to me and arrange the paperwork to be done by overnight mail. Maricela was great at going over all of the options with me and answered all of my questions with financing.
The car was delivered to me this morning by another friendly person from the dealership. I was impressed that Kenny was able to get the car I wanted in 2.5 weeks and treated me like a valued customer. Compared to the other dealership I was working with who treated me like another number and didn't really care about making things happen.
If you need a Lexus I recommend Motor City Lexus and Kenny because they will make things happen! It doesn't matter where you live, they will make sure you get the car you want!

He was upfront with me on the car there one of the few dealers in California that sell their cars at MSRP or in my case lease the car at MSRP when I spoke to him on the phone, he was attentive, upfront with what my payment was going to be and He let me know what paperwork I needed to have ready send off as I was coming from Fresno area going down all the way to Bakersfield (3 hours each way)he even give me a good idea of taking amtrak down there so I could relax on my way over there and when we got there, he picked us up at the train station, ordered us lunch and guided us through the whole process and made us feel like we were home I even had an issue with my insurance and that was the weekend. It was hard to get a hold of them but Leo was ready to step in and try to get us insurance at least to get us over the weekend so I could drive off with the car. I would definitely recommend motor city Lexus again, and again, especially with Leo the whole group over there was amazing l have purchased in the least several Lexus is so I thought I knew what the Lexus experience was but these guys take it up another level even when I went into the back office to do the paperwork they weren't pushy or trying to get me to buy all kinds of...
