Update June 17 2017:
It has been several months if not years since I have last visited this gun shop due to poor customer experience. I figured I would give it another try, and sadly things have not changed in the form of customer service. The store is ran by the owners brothers or other relatives; small town locals. It took over an hour to purchase a Glock because the guy working the counter was talking to the other Barstow locals. Two customers that were waiting after me decided to leave because it was taking so long. I really want to like this location because I enjoy family ran gun shops based on my previous experiences; yet this place takes exception.
Must be a California thing; but they had me carry the mags separated from the gun due to their store policy.
This was my final try, I am done coming here. I hope they get their act together because they will end up going out of business.
When they first opened Route 66 Guns & Ammo had a great attitude and customer service. Over the past two years that has changed. I have purchased several long rifles from them over the last two years, however my recent experience with them was not good at all.
I ordered a rifle in flat dark earth color, however what arrives is black. The gentlemen over the counter states "the serial number matches that is all I care about". Unacceptable, I ordered for a particular item, and was sent something different; not pleased with that attitude at all.
I also asked to order a FN SCAR 17; I was told by the employee and manager that it is considered an assault rifle in the state of CA and not available for sale. WRONG! This rifle is perfectly legal to be sold in the state, Rifle Gear in Fountain Valley sells them, Faith Armory in Temecula has them on the shelf, and many many other gun shops have them.
This gun store is not well informed and the gentlemen working the counter had poor customer service skills, and does not seem to know how to complete a firearms sale properly as he had to keep checking with the manager.
I also noticed they have some ammunition marked to nearly DOUBLE the price of what it sells for at other stores.
This gun shop is nothing like others that I have experienced where you have good interaction and share information. I apparently am not the only person that has had this experience; some people on the CalGuns forum have posted regarding similar experiences.
On the positive: there is a very good selection of firearms, just make sure you do your homework on pricing. In my case, I found a good FFL in Hesperia, and now obtain all my firearms through him; no attitude, or high prices.
I will not be...
Read morePurchased a new pistol without checking around first (stupid me) . Called Turner's in VV to find the same model for $120 less ... Ouch! Went back to cancel sale, as I'd only put down $75, the 10 the day waiting period had just started, gun was in their possession the whole time, never fired, etc. and they said they had to charge an 8% "re-stocking" fee ($45+). Taking into account that fee plus a 2nd DROS fee ($25) at Turner's and the additional cost ($21+) of traveling to VV twice just for the gun, I haggled with them. Told them about it being $459 in VV but they didn't believe me ... said they couldn't find that price anywhere online. I was able to get $45 credit. I'll still shop their (just spent $170+ yesterday on target, storage and cleaning gear) but carefully will price things first before buying...
Read moreSo a little over a month ago I purchased a new browning buckmark pistol, the firearm didn't even make it 200 rounds before the extractor blew out and guide rod fell apart took it back to be sent out to manufacture just picked it back up today they had no paperwork from manufacture and had no knowledge of what parts had been replaced got it home took it apart to clean it up and guide rod and spring are still missing a piece😒 looks to me like they worked on my firearm them selves I don't think that browning would have sent my pistol back without paperwork or in this condition. I really tried to give this spot a try even purchased a 1911 and rifle from them but after this I lost all trust with this business. I will say this the guys behind the counter were cool to talk to but this...
