Velatis — Local services in Bethesda

My (native Washingtonian) family frequently bought, happily devoured, and gifted Velatis Caramels from the mid-1950s onward (but that's as far back as my own memories stretch!), and probably well before that, as my Grandma Geiger & my Aunt Cora Geiger (RIP), born before the turn of the century, were huge fans, and introduced little ME to it! Velatis Caramels were our family's very favorite candy, growing up -- and my father also shipped many boxes from their downtown store to all of his family members in Minneapolis, MN, as holiday gifts, as well. I am delighted to find that Velatis is still in business, as I have been unable to locate them in recent years, and thought they might have closed their doors for good. I will definitely be placing an order (or several!) VERY SOON... I've got your number now! Sadly, it's too late on the East Coast right now -- my hubby & I live in the Pacific Northwest these days. Well things have certainly changed at Velatis. I’m not certain if the are loosing money or maybe they have just adopted poor customer service practices. My husband ordered a box of Carmels and asked for a specific kind and when I opened them on Mother’s Day, the order was completely wrong and not what I had asked for. I ordered them while on speaker phone so I know that my husband and the employee heard my order. I can say this will definitely be the last time I order from the store. They got my order wrong for Valentine’s Day, but I gave them another opportunity to correct the error but to get an order wrong for the second time...

Met a head case Karen today, 12/3/24 at Velatis around noon. Tall woman, dyed blonde longish hair in a rather 1960’s style. I was a considerate customer doing absolutely nothing but ordering my candy. And her aggressiveness was unreal. I’ve been there at least a dozen times in the past years and the candy is wonderful and the staff so nice. But this woman definitely takes her personal issues out on her customers. Especially black customers - watch out...
