I occasionally shop at the Ace Hardware in Blanding, Utah, and every time I attempt a return or exchange, I’m treated as if I’m trying to scam the store. Most recently, I purchased swamp cooler parts for a friend and told the cashier at the time of sale that they might be the wrong ones. She assured me it would be fine and recorded the sale using the phone number on file. When I returned to exchange the item, the same cashier began processing it—until another employee, by the name of Dee, without greeting or courtesy, barked at me and pointed to a pink paper behind the monitor saying, “Just so you know, we need a receipt.” I explained the receipt was in the system, tied to my phone number. She dismissed that entirely and walked away. It’s absurd that a store would reject a return when the digital receipt is clearly visible to the cashier.
