Here's the deal....Longevity is awesome!! I literally love everything about it, starting with Ben. I appreciate that he meets with you before you start to get to know you and where you are coming from, explain the format, show you some of the exercises, and let's you do some of them so he can gauge the best class for you. In addition, since he is a PT, so he walks around to ensure you are doing the exercises correctly to prevent injury. Very important:) Now let's talk details--for me, the time options are perfect. He has 5 separate classes, each lasting just 45 minutes and start on the half hour between 10:30 and 2:30. You do not have to sign up in advance so you don't get penalized if something changes and you are unable to attend. I usually go to the 10:30 class, but if for some reason I can't on a particular day, I can just go to a different class so I can still get my workout in that day. Genius!! Each 45 minute class consists of a 7-8 minute warm up, where everyone is divided into two groups. Group one will do 3 balance and/or brain activities while group two warms up on the bike, row, or ski machine. After about 4 minutes, you switch so both groups get to do all the warm up activities. Next, he explains the 4 main exercises you will do that day and gives accommodations to make them easier or harder, depending on what you comfort level is and how you are feeling. After the explanation, everyone has about 20-25 minutes to complete the four exercises. Next up is the conditioning. This consists of 3 exercises that you do for 30 seconds each and rotate through them three times. After that, Ben walks us through a quick 5 minute stretch and you're done. It is a the best 45 minutes every Tuesday and Thursday!! Now let's talk about the people. The people you get to spend this time with are so SO very nice, welcoming, and supportive. There is absolutely ZERO judgement from anyone, truly only encouragement. There are not many gyms around that can say that, but it's absolutely true with Longevity!! Additionally, a couple other things I really appreciate about Longevity is how you pay and track your sessions. You buy packs of ten classes for $120. Upon arrival, you check in on an iPad, which will keep count of your classes. Once you've used all of your classes, Ben will automatically charge your card and you're good to go for an additional ten classes, until you tell him otherwise. So, you are not paying for a month you may not be able to use for whatever reason--travel, illness, "life". Your classes just roll until you are out then get refilled. It's so easy. Longevity literally checks ALL THE BOXES for me--comfort in the class; time slots/ease of going; the people; the actual exercises; the price point; BEN....I mean, it truly is just AWESOME!! FIFTY 5-star reviews (and nothing less than that) should give you some idea of how amazing it is....don't hesitate, reach out to Ben now!! You won't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was looking for a way to get some exercise when I ran into a friend at the Post Office. He mentioned that he had just finished a session at Longevity Bloomington, maybe I should check it out. He mentioned that the sessions are for 50 and older adults. I emailed Ben at Longevity and started the sessions in March of 2024. Iād tried the YMCA and tried Twin Lakes before. Theyāre both great places. But without a set schedule I tended to put off going, Iāll do it later or tomorrow. It wasnāt working as Iād hoped. And without joining a class that was generally concentrated on one activity, there wasnāt much social interaction. Longevity offers a scheduled time to participate, several sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each session is made up of 3 mini-sessions. Some time is spent on balance and coordination, time is spent with strength training and the last mini-session is all about aerobics/conditioning. Even though there isnāt a lot of āsocialā in the sessions, I do feel as though Iām part of the class of 2024, so to speak and it always feels as though each session is a social outing. In the six months since I started with the program Iāve been able to lose some weight and my blood pressure has improved. At home I have more energy and my general attitude is much stronger. I recommend Longevity Bloomington to anyone 50 years old and over. If youāre not now doing anything to improve your chance for a long life then this is a great way to get started. The way I see it, Longevity Bloomington isnāt about getting me to the finish line in first place, itās all about helping me to take the Longest time to get to the end...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had gone through life for 66 years before I ever broke a bone. However, in a two month period in 2021 I had broken two bones! I had noticed prior to both incidents that my balance was not what it used to be.
I attended the Senior Expo at Switchyard Park and met Ben. He told me about Longevity and gave me his card. He followed up with me but I wasnāt yet ready to commit as I equated the word āexerciseā to something nasty. I have never, ever enjoyed exercising and the fact that I really needed to now didnāt sit well with me.
I finally talked myself into it and contacted Ben. He met with me and explained everything, answered my questions, addressed my concerns and I started attending class in October, 2022. I canāt always get there every week but the way that Ben structures the class, I never feel as if I have missed a component that will impact future workouts.
Ben has configured each session into warm up, balance/strength, conditioning and cool down work outs. He is very conscious about adjusting each task to fit the capability, or incapability, of each person. For me, his class is like having a personal trainer with several others there to keep me company!
I am at my six month mark of attending sessions at Longevity Bloomington. I still intensely dislike exercise. However, I have noticed a marked difference in my balance and stamina in walking and performing my everyday tasks. The benefits of going to Longevity Bloomington far outweigh my long-time personal disdain of exercise!...
