today, the entire staff at Rainbow Bakery, both old and new, has made the difficult decision to walk out, following in the footsteps of the previous staff walkout just three months ago.
the core issues remain unchanged. the current owners lack proper training and experience in restaurant safety standards and practices, and as a result have created an environment that compromises employee well-being and customer safety. additionally, there has been a recent pattern of questionable behavior in regards to money handling, in which tips and wages were not properly distributed amongst staff, and instead a portion were distributed to the owners themselves.
despite our efforts to address these concerns, including critical gaps in maintaining gluten-free standards, the owners have continued to ignore necessary protocols in favor of their own greed and ego. this poses a serious risk to customers with dietary restrictions and erodes the quality of service we strive to provide.
special orders placed prior to our resignation may not be fulfilled to the standard our customers expect, and we encourage those who have placed orders to cancel them if possible to avoid any chance of getting sick.
we deeply regret the impact this has on our community we care about, but we cannot remain in a workplace where safety, integrity, and fairness are neglected.
we sincerely appreciate the ongoing support and understanding from the Rainbow customer community during this challenging time.
Sincerely, The Staff of...
Read moreA trendy bakery with free wi-fi making it a perfect place to hang out with friends or get some work done. Rainbow Bakery has an entire case devoted to gluten free options and is a baked-good haven for vegans and non-vegans alike.
Personal favourites include their gluten-free oatmeal cookie cream pie, pumpkin ginger muffin, sea salt chocolate chip cookie, the breakfast pastie and cheese and potato pastie (eager to try their chicken leak pastie, which I'm told is the best!) and all of their cupcakes. The single best thing I have ever bought from Rainbow was a custom order of salted caramel filled chocolate cupcakes with salted caramel chocolate icing (pictured). It seems their custom orders are currently unavailable, but I believe they plan to bring it back in the near future.
Price is not cheap, but affordable - most items sit between $2-$4. Additionally, I will say that I am always a tad disappointed with the consistency and flavour of their well-loved donuts, but maybe that's just me! This place is a gem, regardless, and will be one of the things I miss most about Bloomington...
Read moreI discovered this place during my senior year at IU. Every time I went, I would get an oatmeal cream pie and try a new item. Every time the oatmeal cream pie was amazing while the other item wasn’t. Now coming back after such a long hiatus I knew I only needed one thing. I went ahead and bought three out of the six pies (crazy they only make so few). I’m not sure if the owner or the recipe changed, but the pies looked different. I remember the cookies being thinner and smaller, but I could be wrong. The edges were crispier than the softer inside, but overall a good tasting cookie. The cream in the middle was fantastic, but a little less creamy then I remember. Good amount of sweetness, but would have loved a better ratio of cream to cookie. Even though they are vegan you would never be able to tell except for in the prices ($7 each). Highly recommend checking this place out and trying their oatmeal cream pie and anything else that...
