I transferred from Cincy State to this college after taking a year off from school due to being frustrated with my experience at Cincy State. My time here at UC Blue Ash was a day and night difference. I had a wonderful experience at this college. The staff was much friendlier and the instructors actually cared about your education.
I majored in eMedia Technology and the instructors I had were tough but fair. They took the time out of their day to help you understand what is going on and wanted to help you improve your skills. They will get grades up as quickly as they can so you know where you stand each week. The eMedia Technology program is very hands on which was great for me because I learn better this way. There are some lecture classes in the program, but the majority of them will be hands on. Every week you had a project due. Thankfully these projects were always do the next week so you could have plenty of time to work on the project. You were also critiqued by the instructor and your fellow classmates. In some of the graphic design courses, you have the opportunity to revisit projects that might have needed more work.
Professor Sanders, who is the head of the eMedia Technology department, was probably the hardest professor there. He will kick your butt into gear. My advice is not to take his criticisms personally. He's straight to the point. He will be blunt but he is honest with you. He can be a bit intimidating at first. However, you will realize he truly does have your best interest in mind and wants you to succeed. He's not the only one. Every instructor I had wants you to succeed.
The buildings are a little old. They have added on to the older buildings and renovated some of the old sections. During my last semester they were putting in a new building on campus. Parking can be a little difficult. There are two moderate sized parking lots in front of Muntz and Walters Hall. They have a larger parking lot behind those two buildings. The parking pass is included in your tuition so you don't have to worry about paying extra for parking. Just make sure you pick up your pass to hang on your rearview mirror or you will get fined. At one point, they didn't make it clear which was student or teacher parking. I ended up making the mistake of parking in the teacher's section on accident and got a $20 fine for the first offense. To dispute the fine, you had to go to in front of a student council. I decided it wasn't worth my time and paid the fine. Since then, they have put up better signs, and changed the color of the parking lines to better indicate what is student and what is teacher parking lot. Apparently it was a bigger issue in the past and they fixed it.
The campus is pretty safe. I can't recall anything bad happening on campus. The cafeteria food was alright and a little on the expensive side. There are plenty of vending machines on campus that are reasonably priced. If you go down the street some and turn right at the light there are some fast food joints you can stop by to get some grub. Their Canopy servers are a lot more stable which is great for online classes. I recommend UC Blue Ash. It's a little more expensive but you get what...
Read moreI attended classes at the UC Clifton campus and the Blue Ash Raymond Walters campus and have found that UC is an administrative nightmare! Revenue is this schools top priority, not the students. I was a part-time student for a short time and worked full-time. This school is very high maintenance and not a good choice for working adults. Even if your employer offers tuition assistance. In fact, employer assistance and/or financial aid only make the maintenance, paperwork, and red-tape worse. Unless you have a great amount of time and patience (you will need loads of patience!) to deal with this, you will be very frustrated and unhappy with this school.
The teaching staff is great, but behind the scenes UC is complete and utter chaos. The main campus is bad and the smaller campuses are worse. If you choose to attend UC, you need to be sure you keep copies of every detail and everything you do, not matter how small or miniscule you think it may be. They lose everything – and yes – that includes grades. If you cannot produce proof of payment/grades/paperwork, etc., they will make you re-do and/or re-pay. The right hand has no idea where the left hand even is. And they show no evidence of any organization, flexibility, or any desire to be helpful. The staff is rude, disrespectful, ill-mannered, and even offensive at times. The absolute worst university I ever attended.
UC does not make all their policies around registration and finances known. In fact, it’s as if they are purposely misleading in an attempt to trap you. If you forget to drop a class, (I do not consider their systems user friendly or convenient to use) UC does not make it evident that they will charge you 100% plus fees and interest and refuse to forgive anything, or even talk to you about it. No matter what. Even if it is an error on their part. And it’s not in writing for the student. Never take anyone’s word for anything. Get everything in writing. The school pressures the staff and teachers not to communicate these details or in any way help students with this policy. It is another way to create revenue for the school.
Communication at this school is almost non-existent, except when you owe them money. Then you will think the mafia is after you. If you ask for an explanation or any details, you will be treated very rudely and they will most likely not provide anything. I had to learn all this the hard way, so just wanted to try and...
Read moreAll they care about is your money. They don’t care if you graduate or what’s right or wrong especially when it comes to how you treat your students. The ones that are paying your bills.
The teachers have absurd rules sometimes and it makes it very hard to finish and graduate. You get the flu have a drs note and are told to stay away from anyone or any place and have the proof and teachers will deny you taking a makeup test because their rules say “ no makeup test” and according to the dean and everyone else who works there is nothing they can do about it no matter how wrong it is. Then deny you getting your money back although u have submitted proof.
This school has dramatically gone down hill since 2015 and has not been the same. At first the school was wonderful and over the years it just keeps getting worse and worse. You can’t get the help you desire, you get half responses if there is a response.
I have asked my “advisor” directly to set up an appointment and my question goes unanswered. I have had advisors set me up for wrong classes that didn’t count towards my degree. And not to mention you pay all these fees like for graduation etc and they won’t give it back even though they have made a mistake and are wrong
Teachers dont respond much either although there is a “24 hour” rule and they still don’t respond. I’ve even had a teacher yell at me in front of students I was helping because she thought she responded to my email but didn’t. What an embarrassment. Yelled at me in public but apologized in private. I can go on and on about the problems here. This school is overall a huge joke...
