Horrible experience with florist on 3 arrangements for my mother's funeral. We went with my brother on in a Mon. afternoon for a Friday AM service, so plenty of time to get it right. Staff person helping us seemed very impatient and almost like we were a bother (he was incessantly clicking his pen while we were going through the books and looking at potential flowers with a somewhat exasperated look) We made a selection based on a book sample provided for an arrangement that went around the urn. Specified that we wanted NO CARNATIONS in this or any of the 3 arrangements and saw him jot it down on his paper. Also, wanted the front of urn piece to not be so full in front, since the urn was decorative. We also ordered 2 large vases of flowers for either side of the urn and asked for calla lilies, my mom's favorite. Were told by the same impatient staff person that they couldn't work - the stems would get "too mushy". As this was our good bye to our mother and she loved flowers, we wanted it to be good and while we did take some time to figure out what we wanted, but we weren't in there for more than 20 minutes in total. We finalized our purchase and left.
At the funeral home, all 3 arrangements were full of carnations and the urn piece was not like we asked. Also, come to find out the same florist was the one who provided another arrangement (ordered separately by a different family member) that was chock full of calla lilies, so they could obviously get them and successfully work with them (and the calla lilies also lasted for several days thereafter). The staff person assisting us just didn't want to be bothered.
When my husband went to discuss the matter in person with the florist after the funeral, a female staff person was very apologetic to him and admitted that she had no explanation as to why what we ordered and asked for wasn't provided. She assured my husband she would bring this to the attention of the "powers that be" (her term) and confirmed my phone number with him to have someone reach out to me. 10 days later, I've yet to be contacted by anyone.
If I ordered flowers and they weren't as pretty as a book picture because the florist lacked the skills to make it so, that is one thing, but to have an obviously capable and talented florist just disregard what someone wants and orders because they are lazy or indifferent, is inexcusable. People make mistakes, but then to get no follow-up just compounds the issue. I'm not one for writing bad reviews, especially for small business owners, but to be treated poorly when ordering, not get what you ordered, and then told someone will follow up and get no response after 10 days later, then you earned this 1 star. Beginning yesterday I have been trying to reach those nice people at America’s Florist in Bound Brook NJ even though I see that the web shows ‘delivery only’, hinting that they might not exist anymore as a brick & mortar shop. I have reached only nasty, and, pretty obviously from their not-NJ accents, ‘ladies’ who have repeatedly HUNG UP ON ME after I’ve attempted to confirm that they are in Bound Brook and therefore have access to my on-file information. I was finally able to speak to someone on Wednesday after Christmas. She called florist and they came that day. I saw photo of flowers and they are not worth the price I paid America’s florist has a new owner and they are not local, they do not arrange flowers in bound Brook. They have locations in several states and they take orders and call nearest florist to deliver for them. I did not know this until after I placed my order.
