I(41) took my son(20) to The Heist during a weekend road trip from OH through VA. Our intention was to experience more local stops than chains. We visited several local places along our way, but The Heist really stood out as a fantastic place to chill, enjoy great food, and just enjoy an intimate musical atmosphere.
The moment you enter The Heist, you're immediately aware of the experience you're meant to have there. It's intimate (read: smallish) but not uncomfortably packed. There's seating directly in front of the stage but also around the perimeter of the venue & at the bar, allowing you to choose your concert/dining experience.
Appetizers are delicious and decently-sized, as are the entrees. I had 2 mixed drinks- a fall seasonal drink and a classic gin martini- and both were well-made and accurately priced.
The staff felt like family but treated us as guests- we didn't feel neglected or overly hassled at all.
The sound is beautiful. The vertical space offers acoustic advantages and disadvantages alike but the crew have it covered. The music and vocals were clear and volume was not a problem; my son and I had no trouble engaging in conversation over our meal.
Overall, I'd return to The Heist in a heartbeat. In planning our trip, I had read several comments from folks startled at the prices in contrast to the location- but this isn't some diner, it's a premier music venue. It's a great opportunity for beautiful little Bowling Green to stretch its legs and see what the town is capable of.
Thanks for making our little road trip even...
Read moreThis was our first visit to The Heist for an evening of writer's circle music and stories. The Heist is a great, intimate local venue set up in an old bank building. Much of the original decor has been thankfully incorporated into the refurb of the space. It's beautifully decorated and comfortable from top to bottom. The stage is in the perfect spot. There's not a bad seat in the house. All the musicians we saw that night were great. The only reason for the 4 star rating instead of 5 was the food service. Maybe it was an off night, or maybe it was just our order. But, it took an extremely long time to get our items. It breaks my heart to even say this. But, it really did put a damper on an otherwise terrific experience. Some cut veggies with hummus, and another dip took over an hour to arrive. My wife's bowl took longer than that. My flatbread didn't arrive for over 2 hours and only after inquiring several times about it, ultimately with a manager. Hopefully, they will find a fix to this problem. We'll go back again for sure. But, we may eat somewhere...
Read moreNy Husband and friends went for the New Years Eve 1920s Party they had. This was our first time at the heist but I promise you it will not be the last. All of us are Bowling Green Natives so to see this type of livelihood and atmosphere bought to this town is mind blowing. The meal was tasty. The drinks were strong, and the music kept us moving right up until the end and then for 10 minutes after. My husband has a food Allergy and Tiffany (such a freaking sweetheart btw) made sure he was accommodated. They also have a fun room upstairs (good photo op backgrounds) that isn't always open to the public but we got to explore and it was super cool. Anyway. If you made this far in my lengthy review.. go treat yourself to a night out at the heist. You...
