Most Dollar General locations are great for customer service and low prices (especially for rural areas where I live). I stop into Dollar General on average 3-4 days per week. This week, I made the mistake of stopping into the Braham, MN location and had the occasion to meet "Derek" there who was checking out at the register. When I first walked in, I noticed Derek at the register area. He was wearing a hoodie and jeans (not really attire for a customer service job and no name tag or bade that could be seen, as far as I knew, they could have been being robbed). No greeting of any kind. I shopped and came to the front desk where Derek was still holding up the counter. He was standing next to the first register. He never looked up to acknowledge me. I paused for 10 seconds and when he never looked up, I asked which register I should go to since he wasn't moving. Without looking up he smartly told me the register was closed and to move down. As I put items on the counter he started ringing things up. I mentioned that the store was a mess (product all over the floor, a full Ty-D-Bowl display knocked over and strewn on the floor in one aisle, a stocking cart completely blocking an aisle, debris such as shrink wrap and zip ties on the floor, etc). He said it happened the night before. Sure. When the 2nd receipt popped up showing $.01 due on the credit card reader, I mentioned it to him. In his monotone voice, he did something on his end and said, "now is shows $54.76 just like I typed it in". I said, "Derek, you should look for a new job because you aren't very good at this one". He had such a careless and poor attitude, I just couldn't take it. He then LITERALLY said, "And you are an a$$". I couldn't believe it. He threatened to end my 2nd transaction right as I hit the approval on the machine. I then told him I thought that was a great idea and asked for a refund. He angrily processed it and refused to give me any receipt for either purchase or refund. I insisted he get me the refund receipts and told him I am sure you have a copy machine. He went to the office and brings out a photo copy of the receipts that only included part of the receipt. It left off the store number and transaction info. Very sneaky. I called corporate to report it. Sorry, I don't like leaving negative reviews (especially in small town America, but this was the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I headed to the Mora, MN location to replace most of the items returned there minus about $50 of merchandise the Mora location...
Read moreGiving more than 1 star because the employees I've encountered are very kind and willing to help, but the store is always messy, there are often items and boxes in the middle of the floor. The checkout counters are also often filled with items that sometimes almost get rung up with my own items even though they aren't mine. The store is closed unexpectedly at very early hours (for example, I've gone at 5pm some Saturdays and they're already closed). At my most recent visit, there were no employees at the checkout but there was a hand-written sign stating to use the self-checkout. Unfortunately, one of the items I was purchasing (cold medicine) required an employee to approve it, and it was a fiasco trying to find an employee who knew how to approve the item and get all my correct items on the order. People in line behind me were putting their stuff down by that time and walking out. I truly don't know whether its the staff to blame because they are always friendly, but they seem overwhelmed with stock and under-staffed. It's a shame, because Braham really needs a convenient store like that to be able to make quick purchases, but the experiences make me want to avoid going there if at...
Read moreMy daughter lives just a minute away so when I'm coming to visit I stop in and get the 3 grandkids cheap toy, glow sticks and of course a snack. The kids are waited and grandma only had to spend a few bucks so I say that's a win all the way around. I've worked a dollar store when truck comes in time to rock and roll....but my goodness there is sooooo much product in this store...I haven't been there in a month I think they were gonna try and work on that and other issues with this store they were closed or closed early on random days yes that was frustrating but what ya gonna do. But I will tell you that I've seen alot of new employees over the last few years but not one has ever been rude or not helpful they say hello when you walk in...and thank you when I check out that's more important than some might think always been treated just like a plain old human being..can't say that about every business I encounter. I've always left there smiling or laughing that's...
