I went in July 17th and stood at the corner of the counter in the front of the store patiently waiting to see someone I could talk to. There was a guy named James working the quick service counter, he walked up to me so I figured I would ask to talk to someone about a donation but before I could even get a word out he spazzed out and told me to wait. So I waited and then he was spazzing out even more acting weird and nuts and told me ignorantly if I want to talk to him or anyone I have to go around and wait in line through check out til it’s my turn. So I walked around and waited in a big line to speak to someone. When it was finally my turn he asked me what he could do for me and I had a flier in my hand that explained what I was doing, I’ve been walking around trying to find any sort of donations for my manager at ace hardware who is critically in the hospital and just had a baby, and we are trying to help raise money for her and her family. And as soon as I walked up and asked him if they would possibly do any sort of donation he profusely shook his head no and told me no multiple times as soon as I said the word donation. While he backed up and still shook his head telling me no interrupting every word I was trying to say. I got very annoyed bc he already treated me disrespectfully when I walked in and then wouldn’t even allow me to explain what I’m asking a donation for. I told him to stop and let me finish, so he stood there and rolled his eyes while looking away trying to ignore me. Ive had very bad experience with this guy many times before while shopping at berkots and I am very fed up with him. He’s been caught and seen breaking cases of beer open so he can chug them down and then breaking the cans and throwing them and hiding them under the shelves. I’ve smelt liquor on him before while shopping their with my kid and am absolutely furious about it. I’ve stood many times in the store while shopping and watching him be very ignorant and rude to other customer and even the...
Read moreStopped in for some pop and ended up buying more things. They had a really good sale on meat and got pork chops for $1 & a tray of chicken thighs for $2. I got a dozen eggs for $3.99 & bread for $1.99. There was also a big sale on fresh veggies. These sales were a combo of their online coupon and printed with store sales. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The store has always been clean when I'm there and well stocked. Prices are competitive with pretty much all grocery stores. I compare prices with Jewel and Walmart and Berkot's gives them a run for the money and it's good quality fresh food. They have their own butchers to ensure freshness and quality. They offer a variety of fresh meat options including custom cuts. Their veggies and fruits are a combo of local farmers and big producer companies which is always a nice option. They do have sushi for those who like that. Also on the go food options like salads, sandwiches, chicken ect. The only thing I'm not crazy about is sometimes the pricing can be questionable but you get that with any place you shop. I always find this a good...
Read moreBUYER BEWARE. Both Berkots in Wilmington and Braidwood donot check nor remove rotten outdated food from their shelves, especially produce. I have come home after shopping at Berkots only to notice my so called fresh mushrooms and lettuce were brown and slimy underneath. I have been at the checkout and noticed my strawberries were moldy. When I told the cashier I didnot want them, she said " that's fine, quite a few moldy strawberries have gone through the line today." REALLY??? My deli meat I purchased was rotten and slimy one day after purchase. I have taken chicken out of the bag to notice it was rotten, smelly and outdated. Last week they had Bays English muffins on their shelf that were moldy and outdated. It's just so disgusting and I'm so done with Berkots. It may be close, convenient but they are overpriced and sell rotten disgusting food. Don't waste your money and avoid getting botchalism and shop at the...
