If you're considering CrossFit--do it!
I was not in the least bit interested in weight lifting or CrossFit. I have zero lifting experience and felt very intimidated. To provide a little background for this review, I'm a stay-at-home, homeschooling momma in my 30s. I never expected myself to enjoy weightlifting. I never expected myself to want to consistently workout, and I certainly never expected myself to fall in love with the gym.
My husband, new to CrossFit himself, quickly fell in love and asked me to come to a class with him for his birthday. I reluctantly committed, purely to show him love and support. I was so surprised to be welcomed in on my first day to such a supportive, fun group. I was surprised that I was able to step in and not feel nearly as intimidated as I expected. Everyone was working out together, but no one was looking my way or concerned with my progress, it was a group effort of every man doing their best. It was a newbs dream: blend in and workout in an encouraging and safe environment. CrossFit is the perfect combo of individual and competitive. While everyone is working to do their best and improve their fitness, there's a wide array of skill level, and it's easy to scale any workout.
Never underestimate the power of community. What you will gain here at Vital is different than what you could gain if you just joined a random gym and did your own weightlifting. Knowing others are giving their best motivates me to give my best. I would never work out as consistently or as hard as I do without the team and support of the other Vital members.
I've seen an array of ages come into the gym in my two months here, and I wish all my loved ones would give CrossFit a try, because it's so good for the body. I feel stronger than I ever have before and want you to feel strong too.
My original motivation to join is the knowledge that once you hit 30, muscles start to decline; I knew I had to make a proactive choice for my health. I never expected I'd be able to do something that appeared so out of my league. If my husband didn't ask me to take a class with him, I'd never have considered it, but now that I'm on this side of my journey, I can't shout it loud enough, just do it. You'll love it. Your body will love it. Your mental health will love it.
Lastly, I can't leave a review without tipping my hat to the coaches. Vital provides a coach for every class. Having a coach who's ready to give you feedback and encouragement is invaluable. All four of them genuinely love people and want your success. No matter what class time you choose, I can safely recommend you to Vital Functional Fitness, knowing that any coach that leads you has your best interest in mind. They have been supportive of my complete lack of weightlifting knowledge and my million questions. CrossFit is so fun! Not only will you gain fitness, you'll gain a family. I hope to...
Read moreThis was the second time I’ve dropped in at Vital while visiting family. It’s something I look forward to nearly as much as I look forward to my mother-in-law’s baking (she’s a brilliant baker, deserving of a Paul Hollywood handshake).
Dale and his team have created an outstandingly welcoming and supportive environment. If you’re new to fitness, don’t be intimidated. You will find extraordinary coaching and a lot of support from your fellow gym members.
I’ve been doing crossfit style workouts since 2008 so my form is usually solid. Dale has such an eagle eye for technique, he spotted a couple of small mistakes that had creeped back into my form (e.g., lifting my big toe as I front squatted). Anyone can fix the big mistakes; it takes a coach with a good eye and deep understanding to really coach you through the little things that make a big difference.
If you’re on the fence about trying them out, drop in. Yeah, you’ll be sore. You may not lift as much as some of the regulars, but you’ll see results and join a solid, supportive group of good people on a fitness journey that will...
Read moreI started at Vital a couple months ago after 3 years of minimal exercise and no real routine. Prior to that I had been working out regularly, but not at all in a crossfit or weightlifting environment.
I came in really nervous, but everyone was very welcoming and nice, and I have never felt like anyone was judging me. It is definitely not a situation where everyone is Super Strong Super Athlete and then there's little old baby beginner; there are folks of every fitness level at each class. Every class session is coached, and the coaches are amazing at keeping an eye out and giving corrections as needed. I have several health issues and old injuries I'm working with, and the coaches are all great about pushing me while respecting where I'm at and helping me find alternatives.
I am not a Working Out person. I don't have the self control or desire to work out on my own. My natural habitat is a blanket burrito. But I actually enjoy going to class at Vital, and am disappointed when I have to miss some classes for...
