THIS COMPANY IS AND DOES BAD BUSINESS. PART 1 We booked one of their listings (Lances West in Breckenridge) that is co-listed through AirBnb through the AirBnb app. While the unit itself was fine, the experience we had with this company was a nightmare leading us to leave the unit one-week before our scheduled departure.
We have been training for a Kilimanjaro climb and booked this unit for the last two weeks of our training period to ensure we could spend time sleeping high and climbing higher. Because we were here for the altitude rather than vacation, we planned to work remotely during our stay which meant that we would be spending most of our weekdays inside the unit.
The first day of our stay there weren't any significant issues. However, there was a work crew onsite that was spraying the windows with a hose. Because we had absolutely NO WARNING OR ADVANCE NOTICE that anyone would be doing any work and WERE DIRECTED IN THE AIRBNB DIRECTIONS TO KEEP WINDOWS OPEN TO REGULATE TEMPERATURE IN THE UNIT because there is no AC in most units in Breck, we had the windows open. Suddenly and without warning, the workers started spraying the windows. I rushed to close them to protect the unit but had opened multiple windows throughout the unit as advised. While startling, we didn't find that incident as disturbing as what followed.
The following day (Day 2 of our stay), again without warning, the workers had returned and began taping up our windows. We asked what was going on and one of the workers said they were painting the back side of the unit. We didn't know what exactly that meant, but went around the back to see and it was clear they were staining and painting the ENTIRE back side of a multistory unit. What this meant for us: We were no longer able to open the largest windows in the unit which meant that we could no longer regulate the temperature. Now you might be reading this and thinking, what's the big deal, it's Breck, it's really high up. Well, that may have been true about 10 years ago when I used to live up in Breck, but these days the climate has made it hot even at nearly 10,000 ft. During our stay we experienced temps as high as 86 degrees. We couldn't see out of the unit. Now we are both outdoor people who would much rather be outside than stuck inside. But when we have to work we look for places that at least give us a view to the outdoors and allow us the ability to open the windows. And now we couldn't do that. THE SMELL. It is well known that stain and paint fumes are TOXIC. In the short term they cause nausea, headaches, and even vomiting. In the longer term it can cause much more serious issues, which as a side note is not great for the workers who were not wearing any protective gear (another bad business). So this meant that not only could we not open the windows, but even the tiny windows we had available to open (which we couldn't open fully because they had been set to a "safe" opening limit) let in the smell of stain. And believe me, you could smell it coming in through the large windows which fed light and air into both bedrooms and the main living space prior to being taped up.
So we reach out to Local VR through the AirBnb app. It takes a while for them to respond. We ask how long this will be? They confirm, yes, there were will be maintenance but do not offer how long it will be. We ask directly, how long will this be? After waiting, they state it will be for our ENTIRE stay. We ask why we weren't told in advance? We get a generic, "we are so sorry for the inconvenience and will do anything we can to make your stay more comfortable." We ask for a discount and have to defend why we are asking for one, which is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. LET ME REMIND YOU - THEY DID NOT TELL US ABOUT THIS IN ADVANCE. Had they, we would have not booked a unit where we couldn't open the windows, had to endure the smell of stain day and night, and couldn't regulate the temperature.

Read moreSafety Issue - PLEASE READ! We rented 511 Fairview Blvd., Breckenridge, CO 80424 for Christmas and New Years. A military age male from LocalVR accessed our rental property when my underage daughter was there alone. There was no need, no purpose and no advanced warning that they were coming. This adult male tried to engage in conversation with my daughter who was clearly scared and caught off guard. One the man asked my daughter if she was home alone she had to barricade herself into a room in the house and had to call someone to come home because she believed that the stranger was still in the home.
After we stopped everything that we were doing to race home to confirm my daughters safety, Shaylee of LocalVR told us to "please check our contract because LocalVR has the right to access the rental property that we rented any time they want."
We had to call the Summit County Sheriffs office to file a formal complaint and request that LocalVR to ensure the safety of our family. We were unable to vacate the property because it was the holidays and there were no options.
LocalVR was unable to explain why a grown man would enter our rental property and ask my underage daughter why she was there alone. LocalVR claims they have the right to do so. LocalVR will compromise your families safety and do absolute nothing about it.
WE just changed our corporate policy to ensure that none of our our employees use Airbnb for travel planning as they simply are unable to ensure the safety of the renters.
I have cancelled all future Airbnb rentals and I intend to file a civil lawsuit against the home owner for the violation of our safety and protection. I share this with you all now so that you think twice before renting anything associated with LocalVR.
You will compromise your safety and do...

Booked on AirBnb months in advance. chalet was paid for 50 percent at booking, 50 percent about 1 week in advance
Unannounced to me, the property was sold, but they didn't provide any notice.
3 days before my stay, I inquired about my sign in code on air bnb app, but got no response.
enquire again following day, no response through Airbnb
Day of check in, 2 more messages, no response. called contact number and it was just a busy signal.
arrived at destination in Breckenridge, and no way to get in. tracked down a localVR number via Google, and they said they would " look into it"
Now it's getting later in evening with no place to stay, and no call back yet ( 1 hr later), so I call back. This time, a rep sends me a sign-in code.
I go back to the condo, but the code doesn't work.
I call back. They explain there was an issue with the property and I can't stay there. ( this is day 1 of a 9 day rental for context, carting around luggage , but no place to stay). They say they will see if something else is available ( unlikely given this is the day my rental is starting and big event in Breckenridge is happening).
Through AirBnb support , I am informed the property had been sold a while ago, but they didn't cancel the AirBnb contract. At least I'll get a refund.
11.LocalVR calls back, admits the property they rented me on AirBnb was sold, but they have no other places to stay. They say "sorry", and I go into the night finding my own other accommodations for a 10 day trip ( lugging all my luggage and with my parents). I ask about any compensation, and they just say sorry, your on your own.
Bottom line, they have lots of nice instagram photos and such, but be weary of actually...
