I am going to start with the positives: The atmosphere is the classy/laid back vibe that is consistent with fine mountain dining. You’ll feel comfortable dressed casually in the bucolic tasting and dining room after a long day on the slopes. They had an accommodating shuttle service that will pick you up and drop you off anywhere in Breck which was a huge plus.
Everything I was served was of the highest quality and it was evident that great effort was spent sourcing the highest quality ingredients and imagining a creative cocktail and food menu.
I dined here with a table of four where we ordered a salad, a prawns appetizer and the 59 oz tomahawk steak to share.
To be frank, the service left more to be desired. After we were seated, our salad and prawns were served promptly. From there, our table seemed to have been forgotten about for at least 30 minutes. It reached the point where one of us had to get up and get the waiter for more water. From the time we were served our appetizers to the time we were served our steak was about 1hr and 15 mins. We were at the point where we were audibly discussing leaving when our steak came out, cooked medium (we ordered it medium rare). The steak was delicious but it cost 277 dollars and for that price, it should have been cooked perfectly as ordered. After the steak, we ordered 3 deserts, only two came out and at that point we threw up our hands. (The bananas foster was not that good).
The bill was about $550, given the service we received, we felt a 20% gratuity was appropriate. Our group of friends all agreed that while everything was good, for the price point, things should have been perfect. One of our party dines here regularly and assured us “it is not normally like this”. It was evident to the server that we were disappointed, and there was no offer to offset our bill, or otherwise acknowledge the shortfalls of our experience.
I will try this place again likely for the phenomenal cocktails and an appetizer. But I may reconsider my options for fine dining next time I am in town.
All in all, I enjoyed the dinner with my friends, all of the ingredients for a perfect dining experience were there, it just didn’t come together for us. I will be fair that our experience may have been isolated. In reviewing other recent reviews, it sounds like something may be going on with staffing.
This place is worth a visit for a well crafted cocktail, but I may consider other fine dining options in Breckinridge. We all left feeling like we did not get our...
Read moreAre you looking for a fun dining experience while visiting Breckenridge? Then look no further than the Breckenridge Distillery Restaurant. If you are asking the question, "What makes it so fun?" The simple answer is everything.
When we first arrived, we were welcomed better than our own family welcomes us at times. There is a bar you can sit at, or you can sit at tables or booths. We opted for a table that had a fun little wobble to it. They attempted to fix the wobble, but we loved the wobble as it added a bit of character.
There is a happy hour menu that has some of the favorite dishes at a discounted price and a regular menu with every item (we ordered from both).
From the happy hour menu, we started off with the Obi-Wan and Banana Rum cocktails made from tasty hard liquors, which are all brewed in the house (yes, there is a sci-fi theme throughout). We then ordered the tots, fresh pork skins (which were still popping and crackling when they were served), salad, the smash burger, and the sticky ribs. All the dishes were prepared to perfection.
From the regular menu, we ordered the New York strip. Here is another fun tip, there are several sauces available to choose from. We had a hard time deciding which sauce to order. That is when we were informed of a sauce tray that contained them all... PERFECT!!!
When the sauce tray arrived, each sauce came in its own 3oz gravy boat. The New York Strip was cooked to a perfect medium rare (just like we ordered), sliced in perfect sized strips. This made it easy to sekect a portion of steak with tongs to put on the dinner plate. This made it easy to douse it in the perfection of the sauce of your choice. However, I ate most of my share without the sauce as it was perfectly seasoned without the sauce. To each their own. This entire experience was over the top fun. However, the enjoyment does not stop there.
There are also several spacious areas available for rent for big group social gatherings of 20 or more guests, and there is a gift shop as you walk in and exit the store which sells the house spirits and other novelties.
Therefore, if you are looking for a fun filled dining experience while visiting Breckenridge, the Breckenridge Distillery Restaurant is the place to go. You will not be...
Read moreMy wife and I have had two date nights at the distillery over the years, but I’ve failed to post a review, which is my bad! This place is simply amazing! What I love the most about it is that it’s a five star food experience without the five star pretentiousness. Like Breckenridge in general, the distillery has a friendly and laid-back vibe that just fits us so well! If you want the pretense, go to Vail or Aspen! But, if you want incredible food, a killer, ski town environment, and super friendly staff, this is your spot!
We started our evening with the pork belly buns, a smoky old fashioned for me and a Pom Collins for my wife. The buns were phenomenal. Perfectly cooked sticky buns and pork belly. The smoky old fashioned was top drawer as well and I love how they smoke it in the mini whisky barrel. So cool!
For the entree, we decided to share a 14 ounce Pichana steak with charred sweet potatoes and the sticky charred broccoli as our sides. Now, I’m super picky when it comes to steak because, at home, I’m typically smoking butcher shop quality steaks. So, don’t take it with a grain of salt when I say this was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had at a restaurant. It was perfect and the sides were phenomenal as well. I don’t think I’ve ever had broccoli that good! Similar vibes for the sweet potatoes!
We skipped dessert because we were so full but, as I wrap this up, I just have to say that our server, Cody, was awesome as was the general manager, Emily, who stopped by a couple of times to check on us. Both were just so friendly , and so invested in making our evening one to remember…...which we absolutely will!
I know it’s a no-brainer to stop by the Breckenridge Distillery for their amazing spirits whenever you’re in town but, if you haven’t tried the restaurant yet, you owe it to yourself to make that a priority on...
