Dear Planet Fitness Customer Service,
I am writing to formally request a refund for charges incurred on my Planet Fitness membership account. Despite my efforts to resolve this issue locally, I have been unable to receive assistance or a refund for unauthorized charges.
I joined Planet Fitness on 02/06/2023 and visited the gym only twice during the first month. I promptly canceled my membership within that initial month. However, I have been billed continuously since March 17, 2023, for a total of 16 months. The charges include:
Monthly membership fees of $10.66 per month Yearly membership fees of $52.25 for two years A recent charge of $35.66 The total amount billed to my account is $321.38. Despite repeated visits to my local Planet Fitness location, I have been informed that my membership was canceled. However, the charges have continued unabated.
Given that my membership was canceled within the first month and that I have been billed for a period during which I did not use the facility, I am requesting a full refund of the following:
The monthly membership charges of $10.66 for 16 months The yearly membership fees of $52.25 for two years This Month charge of $35.66 Please confirm receipt of this letter and inform me of any additional steps required to expedite the refund process. Your prompt attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,

Read moreIn December of 2016, I signed up for a membership with this location and signed a 1 year agreement. I never used it, and in December of this year went to cancel the membership. I did a quick Google search on how to cancel and according to the Planet Fitness website, I could send in a letter or come into the gym to cancel. I drafted a letter and mailed it to the club. Here we are in February and I was still getting charged.
I called the gym and spoke to the GM, and he informed me that since it was not sent certified, it was tossed. I never received a phone call, letter, or email to say that the letter was not accepted. The GM refused to do anything about the cancelation since it was not sent certified and informed me that they would not refund anything. I informed him I would speak to my attorney and see what they said. He told me that he would have the regional manager reach out to me.
After this, I reached out to corporate and they said it was an individually owned location, but the woman said she had never heard of a club throwing out uncertified letters.
Today (2/14), Chris, the Regional Manager called me. I explained everything to him and he told me he had cancelled my membership, but would not give me a refund. I explained to him that the website states to cancel, one must write in (Preferably certified) and that this is the corporate policy that supersedes the agreement. After telling him I would have my attorney call back, he refunded the annual fee I was charged and made sure that no future charges would happen.
It should not take multiple phone calls to the club, corporate, and to an attorney to cancel a gym membership that was never used. I will never join Planet Fitness again if this is how they treat their clients who...
Read moreZERO STARS. I joined Planet Fitness last November. Called in July to cancel my membership, the male I spoke to on the phone stated it was all canceled and that I didn't have to do anything else. I decided to check my bank account a few weeks ago and saw charges from Planet since last July, every month, for a membership that I was under the impression was canceled. I called the club on 12/27/22, spoke to a manager and explained the situation. I was told that there was no documentation on their end that I had cancelled my membership and that I was not entitled to a refund. She also explained that since I was calling to cancel after the 25th day of the month (even though I had already been told it was cancelled months prior), that I would still be getting charged the yearly service fee on January 1st. So not only was I being wrongfully charged $25 a month, another $45 was just tacked onto it. I received a call today from the club (1/6/23) and was told that I was STILL a member even after speaking to a manager a week prior who said I was cancelled. So after calling in July and at the end of December, I was still a member after being told TWICE that it was cancelled. Due to two employees mistakes, I am now out hundreds of dollars. I contacted corporate who stated they would get me in touch with the owner of the gym, which never happened. I went to my bank today to dispute the charges and was told I probably wouldn't get a refund and that I had to take it up with Planet Fitness, who has been 0 help to me and does not seem to care that my hard earned money will not be refunded. I will not be returning and do not recommend Planet Fitness to anyone who is thinking of joining due to lack of...
