Great thrift shop. Local mom and pops. Great prices(even for todayâs economy), super friendly staff. Theyâve been here for a long time and are a staple amongst Bristol Burrough.
3/25/25 UPDATE : Since my last review of Sloans, things have changed. To keep thy troth of fairness, steadfast against my feelings and for the sake of relevancyâŚ
Sloans is still a good place to let your inner thrifter have its fix. However, since the relocation to its new home where it now sits side by side with Veteranâs thrift. (Same owner). Which conveniently sits next to Ollies. And I must say does ring nicely. Have enough time, you can do a âThrifterâs crawlâ. Unfortunately that phrase can be anticlimactic most of the time. Sloans now feels like the utility drawer thatâs in your kitchen. Stuffed with useless junk only to tease you with batteries you think youâve found until you grab the package only to turn it over and itâs empty. Sure there are some treasures in there. But those have become quite seldomly seen. Which brings me to caveat No.2) Thereâs just a lot of junk. Not the âone manâs trash is anotherâs manâs treasureâ junk. Like literal junk. Broken parts that belong to an item but the item itself is missing. A box of nails that date back from the 60s thatâs missing 46 of the 50 count printed on the box. No.3) Then when you do find something, the price tag reflects what seems like the cover of the costs it took to move the store. Itâs hard to justify paying for something that you would usually throw out or just give it away. Going in at least once a week, Iâve come out victorious once or twice. If youâve got time to kill then sure why not, but otherwise just go next store. To end it off on a good note, the staff as always are super nice and the only reason that...
Read moreEthical Considerations: While legally permissible, businesses {SLOAN'S AS WELL AS VETERANS}should CLEARLY COMMUNICATE to donors that their donations are NOT FOR ANY CHARITY'D BENEFIT and that the funds EARNED FROM SELLING DONATIONS are being used for THEIR OWN business FOR PROFIT, GOING IN THE OWNERS POCKETS FOR THEIR OWN purposes! Don't believe me? Ask them to show you their IRS FORM 990 AND FORM 1023 These Forms should be available for PUBLIC VIEW FOR INSPECTION OR COPYING for anyone that request them ( If they are a NON PROGIT AND THEY ARE NOT!) The Bottom line is...SLOANS NOR VETERANS THRIFTS ARE NON PROFITS and your donations go in the owners pockets and they may at THEIR DESCRETION ON HOW MUCH THEY DECIDE TO give which is ONLY a PORTION of THEIR PROFITS FROM YOUR DONATIONS that you, were more than likely, under the impression it went 100 % TOWARD VETERANS.! SAD BUT...
Read moreI have never felt the need to leave a review here before but I definitely had to for this thrift store. I had never been to Sloanâs before and it is now one of my top 5 thrift stores. I originally went in there to stock up on some sweaters for winter and ended up buying a couch as well lol. The couch is in amazing condition and for the great price I couldnât pass it up. Iâm not so sure what people are talking about concerning the bugs but I did read the reviews before going so I was definitely checking everywhere for them. The staff seemed very nice and laid back. The only thing I would like is if there were more menâs clothing to choose from. I am definitely going to go back many many times. Great deals! If you are a thrift store junkie like me, you definitely want to...
