Expectations Too — Local services in Brookhaven

I had a disappointing experience at Expectations Boutique today that I feel compelled to share. I was travel through Brookhaven , MS today . While the store has a lovely selection of items, I encountered some micro-aggressive behavior that made my shopping trip very uncomfortable. There were at least 5 staff members in the store , not one spoke and or offered any assistance the entire time I was in the store . But as other white customers entered they were greeted and asked for if they need assistance.

As a person of color, I noticed the staff's demeanor changed when I entered the store. There were subtle comments and looks that felt dismissive, which made me feel unwelcome. It was disheartening to experience but hey I am in Mississippi !

I believe it's important for businesses to be aware of how their interactions can impact customers. I hope the boutique takes steps to address this issue but if not just put a sign on the door that states who’s welcome and who is not .

Unfortunately, I wont be returning. I will spend my money...

I bought an 18month dress and 4 size sandles for $80 for my 1st new granddaughter that was to be born in October of 2018. Before I bought it I specifically asked if for some reason it didnt fit could I please come back and exchange it. I was told yes I could. I told her again the baby is not born yet and it would be a while before she was in it.she reassured me YES I could exchange it. I called to today and asked could I come exchange it and was told NO. Absolutely amazing customer service for my mom, daughters and I. We went in looking for outfits for an event, and we all walked out with outfits, shoes, and accessories. No short cuts were made and nothing was too far out of reach for Madison to help us with.
