Excellent experiences with purchases there up to the purchase of a second-hand microwave which I've had for a little over two weeks and it malfunctioned last week. I would have brought it back when it broke but no transportation and microwaves are small but not light enough to tote on foot. I don't live far from there, but far enough where that's not feasible without a way to transport it.
Clothes, shoes, videos, games, music CDs and other articles I've purchased from there were five-star purchasing experiences, but this last experience - I give it a two. If it were my only experience there, it would have left one star. It really borders on three in my mind because the other experiences were great!
Apparently, purchasing small appliances there, is "at your own risk." If I were the owner, I would have reckoned any situation concerning a customer having purchased something that fails a short while after purchase should, in principle, get SOME credit back and not having the customer "eat" it. In my book, that's bad for business!
Instead his argument was that I had it over three weeks and that he gets these from storage units from people who have not kept up their storage payments and charges $20-$25 for them - as if that's nothing! Even if it broke the today, no credit at all is not acceptable! I purchased the microwave on June 25. Today is July 11. I actually had it over two weeks, not three. It goes without saying that I walked out with "Sorry, can't [won't] help you," and frustrated. I'm sure losing one customer isn't anything to cry over spilt milk for. I can, however leave reviews, even though the one I left on Facebook, similar to this one, was removed.
That's my experiences with this business. Nonetheless I'd still recommend it even though I'm not in personal favour of it. There is nice stuff in there and pricing is pretty fair, and I must be fair in this to include these facts in this review as this is incontrovertible. The store is clean and tidy. It's set up very well and is customer-friendly. It's a friendly place.
BUT when it comes to things breaking a few days after you purchase them - you're on your own. I do not recommend purchasing items such as microwaves, toasters, small appliances & electronics from this and any other second-hand shop like this that tells you "tough luck sir" in so many words. My advice - get it new or get it used somewhere that offers a guarantee and not in places like this that do not.
I didn't listen to the person whom I asked to stop there so I could look for a microwave to replace the one that failed in the exact same way! Live and learn the hard way sometimes...
I learned my lesson well and glad I didn't try to carry it there - only to wind up carrying it back home or throwing...
Read moreIt’s big and full of stuff. That is for sure. Most of the stuff is fairly well-organized, at least enough to see that it is all pretty much junk and what might pass for something interesting is vastly overpriced. The staff wasn’t around the store for the first six or seven minutes we walked in and wandered around and, when someone was finally behind the counter, “warm” is an adjective I wouldn’t use to describe our welcome. They have some cool things around the store but they’re either not for sale (the Superman in the front window) or exorbitantly priced (the stuffed bobcat by the cash register). On the plus side, it’s also ridiculously hot and only going to get more so as the summer creeps in since the majority of the large-ish building it’s in doesn’t seem to be air-conditioned. I somewhat regularly make the thrift shop circuits and I won’t be including this one on my rounds again. There are far better places to spend time and money...
Read moreWe love going in this new and quickly growing, thrift store. They are very kind and down to earth people, with great prices on most all of their stuff. They have daily deals too. so watch out for those, to help us save even more money than they already do.... Nice to have another thrift store in the area, especially with continually new stock being brought in to keep all us customers happy and not the same old boring stuff day to day.
