We stopped into this location one Saturday and noticed that they had an adjustable mattress frame, a floor model, on sale for $1000 off. The Manager, Shelly O'Brien, demonstrated it for us. Incidentally, Shelly looked familiar to me, but at the time, I couldn't recall why.
The unit was missing the mattress retaining bars.
When we tried out this unit, the mattress slid partially off the frame, but Shelly assured us that they had the retaining bars, they just were not installed. After checking with the furniture store where we had previously purchased our mattress, and price checking on line, this frame was a fair deal. We could have purchased the same unit on line for about the same price, but felt it would be better to purchase locally. We returned to the store that day, and ended up purchasing the frame, and made arrangements for delivery the following Monday. We again asked Shelly if she had the bars and she assured us that they would be delivered with the frame on Monday. As we were driving home after the purchase, I remembered why Shelly looked familiar. Several years ago, I purchased a mattress from her at a store she had in Colchester. As part of that purchase, and as an advertised promotion, I received a gift card for free groceries which turned out to be no good. When I returned to her store to let her know that I was unable to use the card, she told me that she was sorry, but she had been duped by the promoter, and it wasn't her fault...yet she was still advertising the promotion. Eventually that store closed. On Monday, when the unit arrived, the retaining bars were not included. The delivery men called the store to advise, and were told to tell us not to use it until the bars were delivered and installed. Also, we received an owner's manual, which had been photocopied, yet there was no warranty information included. My husband then called the store and Shelly told him that she did not have the bars, and that she would order them, and would keep us informed as to when we could expect delivery. She also said to go ahead and use the bed without the retaining bars, contradictory to what she had told the delivery men. That was Monday. The following Saturday, after waiting for her to call us to no avail, we decided to drive to the store to see if we could get some answers. Shelly appeared uncomfortable with us being there, and immediately and matter of factly, told us that the bars were in the hands of Fed Ex, and she could not give us an estimate as to when she would receive them. My husband reminded her that when we purchased the frame, she said she had the bars, to which she said, I am sorry.....I thought I had them. My husband asked her to give us the warranty information, and she started looking on line for the info, wasn't able to find the correct model, but printed the info to another frame, and told us that she would look for the correct warranty, and get it to us, but if we had a problem, we needed to contact Burlington Mattress, and not the manufacturer. Three weeks to the day of purchase, we finally received the retainer bars, but as of this writing, we have yet to see the correct warranty. We are pleased so far with the frame. We feel, however, that Burlington Mattress only deserves 2 stars due to the unprofessional manner that this deal was handled. Looking back on this transaction, we should have questioned why they would demo a bed without the retainer bars on the mattress if they in deed, had them in stock...really makes no sense. If Shelly would have been up front about the bars, we would have likely still made the purchase, it's just unfortunate how she chose to represent...
Read moreWith our first child set to arrive any day; A new mattress and futon seemed paramount to comfort and finishing the nest my wife and I had been building over the last 8 months. I thought about the best futon I’d ever had, one my father has purchased with his grandfather some 30 years ago in Burlington. A simple but elegant hardwood frame, beautifully joined and finished, atop it sitting the quintessential perfect futon mattress. I am still sitting on the same one all these years later. The Burlington futon company happens to be where they got it, and I was happy to learn that the business is still here. I was able to walk in the door and purchase the same model from the same craftsman directly from the owner of the store that my father and grandfather had dealt with all those years later. A true Vermont small business with an amazing grassroots beginning, you couldn’t find nicer folks to buy a bed from, and their prices not only beat the local corporate competitors, the quality goes way up. We loved our new futon so much(the daydream with willow frame) that we decided to get a larger size version for our bed instead of a traditional mattress. They helped us find the perfect bed frame in our budget as well. Affordable quick delivery right in Burlington and I believe surrounding areas as well. Can’t recommend this place enough, they also have a beautiful furniture showroom with pieces from all...
Read moreTwo weeks after I moved back to the Burlington area, my kids decided to visit. I needed a mattress fast! Maria at Burlington Mattress was fantastic. She helped me select a reasonably priced mattress and arranged for delivery, with a foundation, the next day! The store used TCB Moving & Delivery to bring me the mattress, and they too were amazing. They showed up exactly on time. When I mentioned that I'd tried to put an old frame together and decided it was useless, David Blow, the owner of TCB Moving, said "Let me see it". In five minutes he had the frame together, saving me money and stress. Extraordinary service! I could not be happier with my...
