The staff became increasingly rude and unhelpful during the last week & a half of home delivery. At least 4 different people promised to help explain the new options for delivery, three of them promising to include the paperwork in my delivery, yet none was provided. During the final week I called to place an order but no one bothered to return my call. On their new voicemail message, a woman explains that they are "working to better accommodate how their customers shop".. which is fine, except they only took into account how some of their customer's shop. I shop primarily in bulk & that is not an option if relegated to Instacart. She also mentioned that support would be provided in making the transition, except that was not the case. My view of this store used to be top shelf. I had only good things to say about it, but there was a very good reason why some customers needed support with the new transition. The way it ended felt extremely unprofessional & rude, to say the least. Very rarely do I feel specifically discriminated against, but in this case, I actually did feel that way. Good luck & God speed.
Update. The new voicemail redirects customers to the website to view the new options for delivery, including Instacart, but when you actually visit the website, Instacart is the only option. Misleading & frustrating. I do not shop with Instacart due to additional fees, consistently wrong items arriving to me & mentally unstable workers that made me feel unsafe. If that is the only option, then the voicemail needs to be re-recorded, to more truthfully reflect the...
Read moreThis is such a delightful place to shop. The produce is always fresh & the shelves well stocked. They have reverse osmosis water & kombucha on tap, as well as a nice selection of bulk items including but not limited to; liquid & bar soaps, grains of all kind, granolas, herbs, spices, teas, coffee, chocolate, maple syrup, olive oil, cheeses, olives & other sweets to name a few. The flowers are always local, fresh & beautiful & the staff is usually very kind & helpful. If you need a place to rest for a bit between appointments or want a nice space to have lunch solo or with a friend, their is a big open room with lots of natural light & tables & an uplifting atmosphere. I haven't been there in a long time due to things beyond my control, but I have nothing but wonderful things to say about their special delivery program, as it has been such a blessing to me & I am so very grateful for it & for those individuals who serve their community in that way. Thank you. Don't forget to grab a copy of Seven Days as you leave, to find out about local news & events. If you take a left onto that same road the store is on, you'll end up at Oakledge park/Lake Champlain. Their is an adaptive park, a fantastic tree house to explore & numerous places to have a picnic or just enjoy a...
Read moreI was initially very nervous about shopping at City Market because my impression of health food stores was not great. I preserved because I was motivated to reduce our household waste and thus intrigued by the bulk section, which is incredible. More recently, I've taken to eating gluten-free and dairy-free and City Market has tons of great options for me. It IS more expensive than a traditional grocery store, but they also give you a discount for volunteering around Burlington.
Now I'm a member and shop at City Market fairly often even though I drive by several grocery stores to get to the one on Flynn. I've become a huge fan - I love that I can buy produce grown by Vermont farmers year-round, purchase Vermonty gifts for friends and family when they come to visit, and reduce my environmental impact while eating more healthy overall. Not to mention the staff is really helpful and knowledgeable. I'm so glad City Market is part of...
